Sir, I had a doubt, are contingency reserve, provident fund etc...a kind of gain to the biz and since it is liable to pay to its partners we record it on the credit side of the partners capital accounts?

Look contingency reserves are to be made to meet immediate liabilities like imagine someone filed a case against you and the order can either be in favour or against so the liabilities that are not liability right now but might become liability in future to meet such things and that things don't affect our smooth functioning we make contingency reserves and Provident fund is of employees or the staff's it's not concerned to partners in any way so Provident fund is an outside liability not inside that's why we write P.F. ON CREDIT SIDE OF BALANCE SHEET....

And contingency reserves is too a liability an outside one because we made this reserve to meet external immediate liability so it will too come on the credit side of balance sheet
