The canary (Serinus canaria) was first discovered by French sailor Jean de Berthan Cout in the Canary Islands in the 15th century. The Netherlands, which is now better known as an exporting country for Indonesian walnuts, was originally a walnut originating from England, Germany and Belgium, then the walnut was bred with fallen walnuts and produced several other types of walnuts. The name canary has nothing to do with canaries, but is taken from the name of the island which is its habitat, namely the Canary Islands. The islands themselves get their name from the Latin canarias meaning dog (island), because of the many lying dogs that existed there in ancient times.
