Great video. You mentioned that wire number 2 is obsolete but I read on a forum that it is also positive and it switches off when the ignition switches off without any delay. Do you know if this is true?
@TheCuRe-Mauritsje2 күн бұрын
Hey, the second wire is for the control of the wonderwheel (its a dataconnection). Never tested if it works as a direct switch off wire but my guess is that it wont function like that. I would just let the canbus system let it turn off by itself

Thsi is great but I have the optional Motorrad Garmin Satnav fitted to my R1200R and this socket is used. I am looking for just a CanBus friendly option to run a USB charger off of to power my phone.

I have an 2014 F800GS.. Did the same operation and strangely if I have my Leds turned on at the tim of shutting down the engine, they don't go off after 60 secs. They stay on forever (did not test forever but long enough to risk draining the battery). If Leds are not on at the time of shutting down the bike, Canbus works fine, cuts off the power from both mini cigarette lighter and from Leds after 60 sec as intended. Even stranger; Leds on, bike shut down, Leds still on (after 60 sec), I turn off the Leds by a switch manually, ohhh Canbus remembers its function and cuts down the power after 30 sec or so.. With this setup, Canbus has no use in my case because I have to turn off the Leds with a switch anyways. I am planning to use a relay instead- which I resisted at first.

Thanks great idea. I do have a question and please forgive my ignorance. What stops you from tapping into the power from the “cigarette” connection ? I use a aftermarket charger in this connection to charge my phone but it really gets in the way of my tank bag. Is this why you don’t use it ?
@MauritsRademakers4 жыл бұрын
yes you could do it by splitting the cigarette connection, but because I dont like splitting the wire if not needed and the connector is nearly near the cigarette wires I went for the plug since I had to remove the cover anyway, I also dont know what would happen if you charge the battery through the cigarette plug (canbus charger) like I do when there is something else splitted into the wire. but yes, splitting/ tapping into the cig connection will work ;)

Maurits, great video thanks for sharing. Quick question, the charger unit you are using has a built in converter from 12v to 5v correct? If so, is this necessary? I ask in case I want to connect a USB mini or Lighting cable directly to the canbus adapter instead of the USB charger socket you installed. Thanks

Hi, I connected navi 7 moths ago and works perfect but now I'm going to connect one more device (USB Charger 2,3 Amp). Is it one more plug to do the same solution or can I solder another one to the same cable adapter ?
@MauritsRademakers Жыл бұрын
there is only one "spare" plug available im afraid, you can try and add it to the same wire, but, the canbus system will shut down the plug if you draw to much current. just a simple test at home should do the trick, connect the charger to the same adapter, start the bike and connect the NAV and connect something to the charger, if it shows charging your fine, if it doesnt just undo the usbcharger and turn the bike off and on again, that will reset the Canbusplug. to be honoust you should be fine, the Canbus plug is rated up till 10 Amps and ill doubt if the navi and charger will draw more then 5 Amps total

Very helpful. Thank you. Does the USB port need to have an inline fuse or does the can bus system cover any electrical usb future problems
@MauritsRademakers3 жыл бұрын
hi there, there is no need for a fuse if/when you connect through Canbus, the canbussystem will shutdown the power to the usb if there is any issue

Im going to use a oem plug and I would like to now how can I identify the positive and negative cables on the bike plug. Do you know about the collors of each one? Thank you my friend!
@MauritsRademakers3 жыл бұрын
do you mean that you want to split straight into the CANBUSplug already on the bike? a simple voltagemeter would tell you what is positive when you turn the bike on, do keep in mind that the canbusplug on the bike only is suited for navigation or usbcharging, it has a max output, so dont be putting to much accesoires on that connection, if you need more power connect it directly to the batterij with a fuse in betweeen

hi, have you had any issues with this system, I've just brought this model and would like to do as you have done, I've heard that extras into the electrical system can cause problems
@MauritsRademakers2 жыл бұрын
if you connect something directly on that canbusplug there is no issue, its ment to be used this way. if you splice any other cable on the bike then you can get issues with the system. goodluck 👍

I believe you are referring to an official BMW showp. How much does it cost? I have tried searching for it elsewhere but no luck.

OMG I found it on Ebay for 15 euro, plus 7 shipping!! Expensive.
@8meadrise4 жыл бұрын
At a BMW dealer it's about £10 . And at motor works.co.uk about £12 +£4 for shipping. Expensive when you see what it looks like but does a great job. Brilliant tutoring ,btw.👍👍
@m.henawy5 жыл бұрын
Sorry but i dont understand why you did all that ? you simply use a relay and take the signal from the cigarette charger
@MauritsRademakers5 жыл бұрын
Amateur solution or Professional solution! I could of also just connected it straight onto the battery. its better to split the currents drawn from the bike then using it all over 1 connection. Theres more than one way to Rome!
@m.henawy5 жыл бұрын
@@MauritsRademakers if you say so. I just thought there is any technical gain.. Connecting directly is armature way i agree but once you have a relay.. This is where you use engineering concepts.. Professional is how you do the wiring and connectors
