Breast health has become an important topic for both women and men. But with a huge amount of conflicting and confusing information out there, it can be hard to find the advice, support, and care that you need.
My Breast My Health was created to make understanding breast health easy. Whether you’re looking to learn how to keep your breasts healthy, concerned about new symptoms or learning to live post-diagnosis, you’re in the right place.
Hi, I'm Dr Tasha
I’m a Doctor, Breast Cancer Surgeon, and Medical Educator. After 20 years of helping people understand and overcome breast health problems, I’ve seen firsthand the fear, frustration, and stress that my patients go through.
As a breast specialist with over a decade’s worth of experience, I understand finding the right information, processing a diagnosis, understanding treatment, and getting accurate, practical advice as you ride the rollercoaster of emotions can be really tough.

The internet can be a wonderful source of information but when it comes to breast health there’s a lot of inaccurate information out there. Listening to the wrong advice could cause you unnecessary worry or even put your health at risk.

Dr Tasha, Thank you so much for this video. I'm De Novo stage 4, but it was only found after mastectomy, as I kept talking about increasing pain levels (bones). I found it hard to self advocate to ask for a whole body scan of some kind (was even looking at paying privately for a PET, but the medical oncologist decided to do a SPECT-CT). I'd be really interested in: -- how cancer cells proliferate through the body to seed metastases -- how cancer will reprogramme the lymph nodes so the immune system sees cancer as "friend" not "foe" -- for others: the different types of scans to look for metastatic disease (eg: contrast CT, SPECT-CT, PET, etc) -- how things like a CT-guided biopsy is done. Also, just general advice on how patients can self advocate when they really do feel something is wrong... I'm fairly good at this, but could imagine someone without my work background, might really struggle. ...... I had been told the pains I was getting were too old to be breast cancer. But the ct-guided biopsy returned positive in the two oldest sites, which have had 2+ years of increasing pain levels. As I had been told my arm pain (newest) was "too old" to be bone metastases, I put the spine down to degenerative discs, and put my pelvis down to adenomyosis referred pain..... ....... It turns out two thoracic vertebrae and the point of my pelvis, have high grade breast cancer. (SPECT was negative for my arm, which is the newest site of pain). So a video helping patients to self advocate for ourselves, if we really do feel there is something wrong, would be of use.

Ps.... Dr Tasha, what do you make of the Oxford university metabolomics blood test trials? This is to create a blood assay to: A) identify patients who likely do have cancer, and B) patients who are likely Stage 4. Think I would have needed my primary removed even if De Novo bone mets had been found, as my tumour was close to fungating 😳😳

Dr. Tasha, do you have any thoughts on needle biopsies breaking the tumor and spreading cancer cells? I had a 5cm hematoma after my biopsy and I am terrified it spread the cancer. I am 3 months out from a double mastectomy. Stage 1, ER+, PR+, HER2-. My oncologist says there is no evidence to suggest biopsies or subsequent hematoma will spread cancer, but how do doctors/scientists/researchers really know? I understand that biopsies are essential for diagnosing cancer, but could these biopsies be the reason for some metastasis cancer? I wish more research would be done. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
