That whole "Blood is thicker than water," is a subversion of the original saying, "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." It means your chosen family has more claim on your loyalty than blood family. I feel this aligns very well with your message, because most people who say, "Blood is thicker than water," are trying to guilt and bully people into taking mistreatment from family members instead of standing up for themselves or removing themselves from the equation by going no contact. I've had a lot of nostalgia hitting these past couple of weeks. I've been trying to use it to inquire of my inner child and teen what they need from me, because I'm planning some huge changes that require downsizing and getting rid of a lot of sentimental items. Geesh...😮 so true. Went to a family reunion. I loved that. Then went to a funeral straight after which was a bad move. Arrived to an unwelcoming group of people. I felt alienated only to find out later that I was the centre of their gossiping conversations. Confronted a couple of friends (maybe not). Sorted it out. And closed that chapter forever. When you say whole communities you are on target! I found out that so many people around me knew who my father was when I was growing up and everybody pretended that they didn't know. Including my dad's best friend since he was a boy knew exactly where I was and was in contact with my mother and stepfather who changed my identity as a child and people around them were helping keep me hidden.
