The mystery is unfolding from this song. They put this vocal with Frankie Knucles' "your love" and created a true house classic! This is very good too.

This is a beauty of an original as it suits Candi Staton's style. However the later version with The Source is a classic. My daughter was raving about Florence. Bless her, she's too young to understand. All my best music is on vinyl.

This is the BEST version by a mile and, the original. I can only assume that those who gave this a thumbs down cannot see past the dreadful dance version that was a hit - but only cos this version was hidden away. Having said that, music is by definition, subjective.
@speakertreatz9 жыл бұрын
+soulguardian65 ah come on, it's not DREADFUL, that's a total exaggeration. It was a very clever coupling of two very unlikely songs, one joyful and happy, the other moody and introspective, put together made something ecstatic, that stood the test of time. It was a hit for a very good reason, and it's stayed a hit, and Florence easily made it a hit again. I can see why you prefer the original, if it's from your era and taste in music (soul guardian and the year 65 kinda give both things away). This version would never have been a hit on the same level, the music wouldn't have appealed to the same amount of people. Why do you think it was 'hidden away'? People didn't buy it.
@stephengyte89377 жыл бұрын
SoulGuardian I disagree with Gavin Paisley. He gave up the right for an adult debate with his ageist and fleeting comments in my opinion. Had he been around in 86 he may well have known this track was massive in the clubs and again with Adeva's "Musical Freedom" in 89 and Paul Simpson's mix of Candi's version on the flip of Anthony Whites cover of "Walk Away From Love" also in 89. At the end of the day it still remains a classic Gospel Soul track no matter who sang it. Personally, I love the whole journey of this track; artists, contributors and genres alike but without the original it wouldn't have had such an impact over the last 30 years
@marcusallen73586 жыл бұрын
Well said,The dance hit had mass appeal but was ultimately humdrum and unsatisfying!

I will take the unpopular opinion. This version is exquisite - but the latter versions (FATM, The Source), which changed the chords, completely changed it and IMHO turned into something even better, in fact otherworldly. In all versions, though, Staton's voice is the real asset of this song

It's hilarious that people are mentioning Florence in the same breath as Candi. The former offered nothing but a straightforward cover version. It may have show-cased her vocals, but the choice of song was a safe bet and didn't push any original arrangement or emotional tone.

It's SO 80's it's hilarious, it's funky but all at hose tinglings and some of the synths are just flat out grating to listen to. I prefer the remix I think. Then there's Florence's version, which as much as I love, it's pretty much a different song as she almost tries to make oddly dark.
