Neither the looks, nor the acting, nor the voice-what was Sanjay Leela Bhansali thinking when he cast Sharmin Segal Mehta in this role? I don't understand. Whenever her face appears or she delivers a dialogue, I feel like breaking the monitor. Her acting and dialogues are so irritating, it's unbelievable. In stark contrast, Aditi Rao Hydari was amazing. She is beautiful, has an excellent voice, perfect height, a lovely smile, expressive face and eyes, well-shaped eyebrows, and a graceful walk-everything about her was captivating. It's baffling why Bhansali didn't choose her for the main role, given her incredible talent and screen presence. It's a shame that nepotism influenced such an important casting decision.

it's not Sharmin Sehgal fault, it's SLB fault to cast her. The director who is so particular about every minute detail somehow manage to overlook god awful acting. He lost a little bit respect from my side.

yea Aditi Rao should have played Alam, it would have been so wholesome to watch her. Even Saima or Shama could have pulled that role gracefully as well. the series would have been perfect had Sharmin was cast in rather smaller part instead of Alam. in small part she could have tried her acting craft rather than giving her a major part in the first place. it was so intolerable to watch Alam. i had to skip forward her parts and couldnt enjoy to the fullest.

Sharmin being always late in set and her general attitude turned me off ; while the others are all proud of their craft . I want to defend her from negative comments about her because I really enjoyed the entire series but listening to her interviews' she deserves all the negative reviews. She has so much to learn from the other casts - for one, punctuality in the set is very important. It means you have respect for others and you take your job seriously. How can Sharmin say she wants to play the role of Mallikajaan? That is so rude ! A professional reply should be that they played all their parts the best. To say that Mallikajaan is her inner soul is very scary too😂 That's not a very brillant statement

Were you on the set to know enough ? Perhaps it's just that too much training changes your style. Besides it's the expressionless lifeless person who was torn between resisting becoming a tawaif and choosing love. So it may just have been that way...so taking up a role which would receive so much flak for naivette etc. would be a risk more trained actors wouldn't. Besides we have so many movies on courtesans that we are coloured by our understanding. Besides women in different ages behave differently. It's the ultimate truth that women are more vicious about women. Actually no fresh talent from some UP, Bihar can replace PPL born in class...would any Bollywood actresses go for the role . Like it or lump it.

Its obvious if botox face sharmin wasnt his niece She would have been thrown out of the door after the 1st audition itself So she wouldn't even have gotton a chance to give 17 so called auditions, let alone be selected. She just cant act with that stone face, hoarse voice, dead eyes.
