They are not permanent road signs, they are installed only during hatching season to mark areas where nests are close to the roads. Basically a warning to watch for birds crossing the road to get to the other side.

No sure what you mean. The gag was about shapes of signs - that motorists are supposed to be able to identify by shape alone, as with a yield sign. The audience saw the shape each time I held one up, but there wasn't anything on the side facing the customer; the signs were blank. -Peter
