- Candle makers don't really care. - Don't use food coloring. Use candle dye instead & wear gloves. - An old pan that you no longer use for cooking should be used. - Don't use a wooden/silicone spoon. - The cloves and cinnamon will only give you a house burning smell. - Fragrance oils > Essential oils. Unlike fragrance oils, essential oils oftentimes have very low flash points which cause them to evaporate when added to hot candle wax. - Make sure you use candle-friendly containers. Some glasses/containers don't do well in heat/oils used. - for any craft, please layout something to protect the table/surface like newspaper or tarp. Wax stains are no joke.

As a candle maker myself, the wax taper candles are made from a different type of wax than container candles. Plus, please never just randomly add whatever to a candle as some additives can catch fire.
@joemann79717 ай бұрын
The difference doesn't really matter. If anything, container candle wax just melts a bit more easily so you don't just get a bunch of wax stuck on the walls of the container. So, this could just have unburnt wax just stuck on the edges. The extra stuff does seem a bit dumb, but it won't really catch on fire due to the wax cooling down the stuff preventing it from catching fire. A wick would burn in a matter is seconds without the wax. The wax is what prevents it from just catching on fire. If anything, the stuff might turn into an additional wick but doubt that it would even do that. The wax will just cool it down too fast for it to be able to maintain a flame.

This is actually a useful concept. A while ago I took the bottom 1/2 inch of wax from an expensive large scented ‘jar’ candle - the part they tell you to throw away so the glass doesn’t explode. I heated it carefully and appropriately in not-boiling water until the wax was liquified and then poured the scented ‘garbage’ wax into 5 ramekins. Now I just light a plain old cheap tea light and put a ramekin on a proper holder over it. It smells like the original expensive candle, obviously, but the wax doesn’t get burned as the fuel (as per grade 7 science class I remember so clearly), so one ramekin can be used over and over until the scent is gone. It just resolidifies as it cools and sits ready for next time. You can wrap the ramekins in plastic wrap for pennies if you’re concerned about the scent evaporating. No need to wait for the bottom of the candle to do this. So now I buy the smallest jar candles and divvy them up and they last a *zillion* times longer than burning up the wax itself. Duh, when you actually think about it. 🤷🏼♂️

As a candle maker, this is the dumbest thing i have seen in a while. 1. Candle wicks need wick tabs to keep them upright in jars. It will worm without for a bit but the last half of the candle, the wick will fall in and be useless. 2. Wicks come in different sizes to create a melt pool big enough for the candle. The larger the jar, the larger the wick. A wick from a thin stick will not be big enough for a jar. 3. Many wicks are coated with wax during manufacture to help keep the burn even. Melting it off will make it useless. The candle will tunnel and that is just sad. 4. Candles have special scent oils and dyes for a reason. NEVER use essential oils or any scent that is not approved for use in a candle. All of the scents used in candle making have the flash points clearly listed and the type of wax they can be used for (parafin, soy, palm, gel, etc). This is a dumb idea. Dont do it! Edit: are you happy now?

Warning! Putting random "decorative" crap in your wax can cause the wax itself to catch fire and shatter the glass! Do NOT put crap in your wax! Especially if it too can burn! Also remove wick bits from the wax if you see them; those too can cause a fire to break out! Oh, and wicks for jar candles absolutely MUST have a METAL shield on the base to keep the flame from direct contact with the glass; another thing that can cause the glass to explode and throw burning wax EVERYWHERE!

Glass is incredibly resistant to heat. In fact, glass can handle that "decorative crap" burning with ease. Not to mention, the wax itself will prevent it from burning too quickly. Alternate title: How to waste 5 candles and gain nothing.
@giuliad2237 ай бұрын
As someone who often left match butts in the candle I just lit up, you don't want any additional piece of anything that can burn inside your candle. Cause when the wax will start to be less, the cloves and cinnamon sticks will catch fire and since they are soaking up wax they will burn for minutes. The glass will have a giant flame inside it that will turn it hot as fuck. Trying to put it off with water will result in a two-feet-long flame that will probably burn your brows. And your table will get ruined by the hot glass at best, burnt at worst. I know I sound dramatic but this literally happened to me. Be careful

@@ebychuks9797 I make candles and wax melts but if someone chose to use a crayon, you wouldn't need to melt the entire crayon for the color. Maybe a little less than half depending on how light or bold you'd want the color to be. As for the smell, lol, I'm not sure because I've never used crayons as dye

It won't smell I assure you, the wax overpowers it me guess, we've done it for a chemistry project back at highschool. We used crayons and essential oils and it was successful!

@rubennieves66188 ай бұрын
Nope, nope and nope-r! Essential oils are not meant to be burned- they are supposed to be used in diffusers. Also pillar wax which is used for taper candles will pop right out of any " candle safe" container. Candles need to cure to have a " lasting aroma". Cloves are a fire hazard! Odor & Dye disinfectant?! Uh- are you trying to make a candle or a bonfire? Candle dyes need to bind to the wax or they will clog the wick- and become a fire hazard, food coloring is for FOOD not wax. Also any candle will only last as long as the burn time allows depending on how quickly and how often they are burned. I think this video was made just to provoke controversy and mass comments. Genuine candlemakers don't have anything to hide- we share best practices because candlemaking is an art form and works better in a community. Please test everything you make for safety before selling.

What candle makers don’t tell you is that we test all our wicks of different sizes against our wax and scent used because they burn different depending on vessel, wick size, wax, and even essential oil used. If they don’t burn well enough, you either get flame too small it just burns the center of the wax in the vessel and leave a tunnel and wasted wax on the sides . Or wick burns like a campfire and become a fire hazard or put out black smoke. Or also burns teeny tiny flame that drowns on melted wax. And the perfect temperature when you should add your essential oil to make sure they mix well with the wax. Yeah, there’s a lot we don’t tell you because you can find about all that yourself too if you want to get serious in making candles.
