David Niven is so likeable. He doesn't talk down to the children. When the film came out, and as a 7 year old, I went 3 times with my mother to see it in the cinema. I have appreciated Niven ever since.

In the 1970s Disney made some wonderful family films, and Candleshoe is up there with the best, it so entertaining, with a great story, and characters . So refreshing to see simple storytelling in keeping it wholesome , and no special effects or CGI . Its a film with real charm and is so endearing everyone , and any age. Pity films of today didn't have the same enjoyment and appeal of films of this era.

I have to say I really am impressed with the accuracy; most films would use anachronistic rolling stock.

@@Cool2BCeltic It's set several decades before, though.

@@georgespencer8429 It seems to me that the film is set in a fantasy late 1970s, where stately homes still employ butlers who look like David Niven and people wearing flared trousers still travel by steam train.

This scene just gave me an idea for a scene for a anime series I'm thinking of doing. I can see it now, a girl named Velvet was late to catch the Flying Scotsman that's taking a train to London. I give her ride in an Aston Martin DB5 to the next station and trying to beat the Flying Scotsman there. And the music that plays during the chase is South Preservation Society from the Italian Job.

Only one thing wrong with the railway elements in this, the train pulls into the wrong platform at Arley (the station the people in the car miss the train from)

The UK has very few still-operating steam lines (most are for tourism, but there's one with "proper" services), the same few stations appear in nearly every show. The rural stations of Heartbeat become urban ones in central London for Ripper Street, and so on.
