How to use TAP Transfer Artist Paper with glass, wood, metal and more

Does TAP have a shelf life? I bought several packages a few years ago, and if it may still be good I will implement a search thru the 'craft supply jungle' for it. My original intent was to transfer photos of my cats onto canvas and paint over the transferred images with oil or acrylic paints after applying a layer of clear gesso. Would that be an appropriate method to paint my 'kitty kids'? Thanks.

When printing on TAP transfer paper, am I able to print in advance and then transfer print several days later?

I'm a glass artist and just bought a pack to try, but am curious as to durability after the inkjet image has been transfered to the glass? And can I also use this to transfer onto glazed tile? And how durable is the image once transfered onto glass/tile? Do I need to put a protective coating over the image? Thanks...Can't wait to try this.

Yes, I would use a protective coating if the item will be used for something other than artwork. It is durable under normal non-abrasive use. An unglazed tile is best but it will work on a glazed tile. Keep in mind that non-permeable surfaces cannot absorb the polymer like absorbent surfaces - paper, fabric and wood. I suggest you practice on one of those surfaces to get a feel for the process before attempting the more difficult surfaces and expect some practice on the glass and tile as well. Also be aware that a transfer works best on a perfectly flat surface, as the surface, paper and iron must all come into complete contact for a complete transfer to occur.

Yes, The settings for a heat press are 350-375 degrees, medium pressure and 20-25 seconds. Always test first!

Can you use TAP with the prewashed Kraft Tex? Also, can you iron on to a project you've already sewn in Kraft-Tex say the KT sew on to felt? Thanks!

Is there a way to get rid of the shiny polymer that shows when transferring an image to a dark substrate (e.g., brown paper)?

You cannot remove the polymer once it is transferred , but washing or ironing over it with a scrap piece of muslin can help. It is best to trim the image of all excess white areas when possible, prior to transferring. Another alternative is to print the image in the center of a full sheet of TAP and transfer the whole sheet so that the end result is uniform in appearance - if the surface is the same size or smaller than the 8.5x11 sheet of TAP.

Could this work on the back of dominoes?

Hi Kyle. It would depend on what the dominos are made of. TAP works best on porous surfaces, like wood or bone, that have not been sealed. It will likely not work on plastic. You can always give it a try and sand it off if it does not transfer to your liking.
