Happy Father's Day Paul! You are man of many shave talents. Your WTG pass was very nice and you could have stopped there with a SAS. I did find the Maca Root cream at my local Military Exchange, so now I have a source. I see you are still sweating, so I know it is hot for you. The temperature here has hovered at 34° C for the last week with severe thunderstorms...a lot of damage due to 140 kmh winds. Roast lamb steak dinner with all the trimmings; drooling here. I could go for a cider just about now. My supper is a mystery due to it being Father's Day. If I am given a choice; Italian. Possibly my son will grill, so still good. I have had my Father's Day shave; an all British line-up: Gillette Aristocrat #16, 1970 Gillette Platinum blade, Castle Forbes Lime shaving soap with matching balm. Fantastic shave; close and comfortable. I am ready for my day, please enjoy yours...the Misses and you! Tell her those were lovely flowers. Cheers.

Hi, I saw a more $$$$$ shavette on YT, a Feather SS I believe. It mimics a hollow ground straight in weight and performance. Storm damage: My area was hit hard over the course of 3 nights. Damaging straight line winds plus down draft coupled with some embedded funnel clouds made for many broken tree, roof damage, siding damage, and power outages. I have 10 trees on my property and each one is damaged. Two of them to the extent I need the Arborist to attempt a repair. Honestly, I live in Tornado Alley and Springtime is bad for these damaging storms. By the end of June they will diminish in frequency and intensity. Once the heat dome builds, it caps thunderstorm development. However, it will be HOT...41° plus. Stay cool Paul!

Nice shave Paul, for an occasional straight/shavette user you don't do badly 😌👏 As a shavette nut, I recommended the Treet because I know it's good, it's my favourite shavette blade at the moment because of its smoothness, I've used one about 100 times, for 3 passes and never had a single problem. Beautiful flowers Mrs H 😌👍💐

Great shave Paul! I have no desire to try a shavette or straight razor but I'm glad to see how to use one properly. I was fascinated to watch my barber use a straight razor as a boy waiting for my turn in the chair. Watching him use the big leather strap that hung off the chair to put an edge on the razor, and the sound of the brush in the mug as he made up the lather are still fresh in my mind. Just when I think Mrs. H couldn't top herself she does! Beautiful flowers! My guess on the pink ones are peonies, love that scent. Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad's out there! Sunday dinner sounds a treat Paul! 61f and raining here this morning so no need to water the gardens today. Take care, Ossie

I know you own one of those excellent dovo shavettes with that long dovo blades (you had bought it from a shaving store in London) meant to have the straight razor's actual length. I think it's more comfortable using it with those blades. Remember to stretch your skin at all times, it really takes its performance off. I used to be an exclusively straight razor shaver until i started watching your videos whitch turned me into a semi straight,semi DE razor user.Your videos fan from the off Paul and i really did enjoy this one! BTW maca root looks good is it pricey?Cheers !!

Waiting for you to grab an Omega brush & dig into one of those Col. Conk pucks. The scents are ok, but no issues with performance. Never had a problem whipping up a thick, "pasty" lather. Definitely one of my favorite inexpensive brands of soap.

the pink things are called Paeonia. Maca root is my preferred soap if I'm in a hurry. I never get any cuts or nicks when using maca root - it is incredibly protective and rises off nicely and doesn't clog up the razor. Some should tell body shop to make some more creams with nicer scents, because I agree with you that the scent is the weak point of maca root.

I do like the Maca Root cream. As you say, super slick and nutrative to the skin. I find the scent underwhelming, which is my only complaint. I may try it tonight and put something in to kick it up a notch. Perhaps some lemon oil and a bit of menthol. I like that the lashings of...has become an audience participation gag during the shave.

Hi Paul! Shaving has been good lately! I got my hands on a puck of ''De Vergulde Hand'', and just a few days ago my two new razors arrived, but still waiting on my shavette (Funny how I plan on doing something and then you make a video of it, keeps happening!). A Ball end tech and a 3rd quarter of 1965 Gillette Slim Adjustable, of which the last I used today going all the way up to setting 7 because I couldn't really feel the blade doing much. But I have a question: the Ball end does not have a date code. It is like yours, and pictures on the Internet say that it is a 1950's Ball end, going by the placement of the logo and ''Made in England'' stamp, and other information says it should be from or after 1952, because of the corners of the guard. Also, mine has a light (Aluminium) handle and guard, and a heavier head. I don't know if that is standard or not. I can't seem to find much information on that, but do you maybe know something that I don't? Much appriciated in advance! Also a tip for you: If it is hard to keep the blade in place in the shavette when closing it, you kan put a little bit of water on the shavette to let the blade stick to it. ''Heb een fijne week Paul!''
@PaulHFilms
@PaulHFilms 7 жыл бұрын
It's great your having good shaves of late.....good soap that, I have some....hope the shavette arrives soon, your Ball End Tech sounds exactly like mine yes, no date codes, very light handle and slightly heavier head.....very much the standard for them....1950's is all I know, hope you have a great Sunday...all the best and thanks.....Paul.

Technically Brilliant if you don't mind me making a recommendation, as someone who has been using a shavette pretty much daily for over 18 months, then go for something like Paul bought (or a Sanguine, Parker, ...) rather than one like a Dovo. They are great and I love mine, but they have more blade exposure and I honestly couldn't recommend one for a first shavette. 😌 I'm an admin in a FB group called Shavette World (Ronnie Greher's group), it's a really nice group, and if you ever want any tips or tricks we'd all be more than happy to help.

I used a haryali shavette when I first started traditional shaving, I used it for 2 years and rarely walked away from a shave cut free. I then switched to a real straight razor for a year and had some of the closest and most comfortable shaves. After a year I went back to the shavette, just to try it after experiencing a real straight, I cut my face a lot... again. For me personally, for my skin, the shavette is too precision, too machined. If you are starting off straight razor shaving, I recommend getting a real straight. Real straight razors are more forgiving. You don't have to spend a fortune, I use a gold dollar 66 everyday and it is perfect. 20 euro for the gold dollar and a strop on ebay. I have been using a real straight for 3 years now and I rarely touch the shavette.
@PaulHFilms

Very nice, I too have the Gold dollar straight razor, much easier to use than the shavette, as stated in the video...hope it helps others to decide....DE is my first choice, always enjoyed it......all the best and thanks....Paul.

No Paul, I am not going to try a shavette. You did well: I was very impressed that there was no blood. Recently, I discovered that the Chinese have brought out a clone of the Merkur Futur (which always intrigued, but was too rich for my blood.) It is marketed here in the US as the Qshave or the Ming Shi at 1/6 the the cost of the Futur. If any of your followers have experience with this clone, I'd appreciate advice as to whether to purchase it.

Don't let your majesty watch this shave. Only two razors as he throws arms up to the air Queen Guinevere observe this peasant. What do you speak of. His Lordship replies this little man only used 1 shavette and one de razor a plastic one too boot. Well I would have used 2 SE razors and 3 DE razors made of gold I tell you. Yet I cant look away from Mr. Humphreys channel. Queen replies so now he has a name. All The Best, Paul

Speaking only for myself but shaving with a shavette or straight is something done to prove more to oneself that the talent and/or skill to do so is there but not an absolutely necessity to be a "legitimate" wet shaver. Or as you said, something to do to keep your hand in. Honestly, I see that a straight style razor is more intended to be used on the shaver and not so much by the shaver. So, shaving at awkward angles is unavoidable and it makes good sense to have a second razor for that purpose. Although I must say I have found that using a shavette on unwanted body hair is a breeze... It annoys me to no end when I see the adage 'a straight razor shave is the best shave'...A BBS is a BBS. It does not matter which tool delivered it....Anyway, enough pontificating... ;-)

You must really have it out for sheep! You eat lamb like they killed a family member of yours and you're trying to eat your way through all of them to make sure you get the culprit!
