Hi, Pete, Yes, I entirely agree with you, that the LPH-80is not a clear coat gun. I myself have used it for small spot blends but not large area's on a regular basis. The Green which Kawasaki uses is Golden Green Blaze and is a Tri - Coat Pearl but not a Candy. A real pig to get a good match on. Even Colour Rite cannot match a blow in. Better of painting the whole panel. I use Diamond Grey as a base, and also another grey. But keeping to a pure Silver ups the ante as far as the base showing through in the Sunlight. Well done, keep up the good work!!!

Dear Sir, I thoroughly enjoy your video's. I note your findings on the guns with the settle differences. Should you have time you could inform the viewer on each stage of the process of painting that has a different finish as in this video, getting colours to "Pop". I have space in my garage for a home made booth but would be concerned about ventilation and the measuring of thinners/quick release. Having watched you for sometime, it's very therapeutic being creative which is why I enjoy your video's. What's the cost of a similar setup.? The time it takes to clean a gin and bottle.? Are your tanks metal or plastic.? I use a airbrush/small comp. so my knowledge is limited. Thank you.
@peteshobbies53833 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, my setup is pretty basic, you will see that my spray area is not sectioned off from the rest of my garage, this doesn't seem to cause me a huge deal of problems with foreign material finding its way onto the work. I have a reasonable amount of space so the amount of overspray doesn't cause a problem, I have a few fans that move the air to the exit then a 20" fan in a 24" home made box that takes standard booth filter media before exit, it works fine for me. My setup cost around £1400, that's for fans, compressors ,water traps and masks, excluding guns, you can however do it on a smaller budget and of course a lot more. The bike tanks are steel, unfortunately you can't paint a plastic fuel tank as the plastic will always allow fuel vapour through so will quickly cause delamination of any paint, appreciate the comments 👍

Alsoi've been restoring some old BSA petrol and oil tanks for my pals and like you said its alot off work prepping before paint ie stripping , filling , priming etc i don't think people understand what we do.
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
Hi Jimmy, yes, the Walcom guns are generally very good, I'm not sure about longevity though, to early to tell at the moment. As you say, the quality of a paint job is mostly down to preparation, without a good, smooth and solid foundation it matters little how good you, the gun or the materials your using are, cheers mate 👍

Interesting video Pete, I've never done candy's but keep saying I'm going to but never got round to it. As you say it's surprising what a difference the silver and gold ground coats make to the final colour, I wonder what you would get if you used a red or blue ground coat with a different colour candy but being colour blind I wouldn't know until I try it! 🤔 Think I mentioned my DV1 base gun arrived yesterday so gave it a try today with a colour called BMW Snapper Rocks Blue metallic not sure if there was any pearl in it but it's a really nice colour and have to say that the DV1 laid it down flawlessly, it was very flat and even and didn't really need a drop coat but gave it one just to be safe, I wasn't expecting it to be any better than my GTI Pro TE10 but it was plus it was easier and faster, so far I'm very impressed with it, down side is I've just got this gun and a Deros so now I'm skint 😂😂

@@peteshobbies5383 Just bought a iwata LPH80 with a 0.6 tip for touching bits up when doing a large faired bike, bits can come away or get marked. Handy to touch bits in. I was going to get 0.8 but wasn't sure really. O.6 will be better for painting logos on as well I guess.
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
@@Supercarlsunday Yeah, it's always difficult knowing what to go for on some of the smaller tip sizes. I have a LPH50 in 0.6 which has an E2 cap, normally the LPH80 has the E4 cap so gives a slightly bigger patern, the LPH50 needle and tip are the same as the LPH80 so i can change my 1.2 to 0.6 or put the E4 cap on my LPH50, haven't really found the need for a 0.8 LPH so i think for the most part you're made the right choice

Hello Pete, I’m surprised and then again I’m not with the application of clear coat with the LPH 80, although I’d still really like to get one further down the track I can definitely see good use for it,. Do you see much difference in how the clear lays down between the LPH 80 and the W300, meaning is one flatter than the other ?
@peteshobbies53833 жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, they can both lay clear really well and flat if you want it, the main differences is the speed, the W300 WB lays it down in half the time and actually uses less material, the Lph80 i have is 1.2 and my W300 is 1.0 so a 1.2 W300 would be a dream for clear, the W300 does use much more air which is why i think it puts it out so well, its over twice the consumption of the Lph80. The Lph80 is a cracking little mini gun but it has it limitations, certainly in my book which is something a fair few mini guns don't seem to suffer from anything like so much

Pete! I notice that this LPH80 is very suited for spraying candies on tanks because it seems that there are no wet/dry patches in a coat. This gun sprays a nice even mist am i correct? If i spray candies with the SRI Pro or 4400 RP i must be very carefull with my first candy coats because these 2 guns don't produce an even mist but more wet/dry spotted if you get what i mean. Before yo know it you will end with darker patches here and there. I once had the Minijet 3000 hvlp which was perfect for candies but i sold that one, still regret that.
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, The Lph80 has a even fan, having said that i find the Sri Pro Lite and the 4400B just as good as far as an even pattern is concerned, the LPH80 atomisation is finer than the other two but the pattern is consistent on all. The efect you described with darker areas is called mottling and as you say can happen with candy colours for obvious reasons, I'm not sure you will find the LPH80 any better for you to be honest, does the fan look even on a piece of paper with your guns?
@Harolddespui2 жыл бұрын
@@peteshobbies5383 Yes if i hold the 4400 and sri pro still and spray shortly on paper they spray even, the issue i found is when you start to move. You can notice dryer and wetter (alternating) spots in the coat. To avoid mottling i always use half of the amount of candy concentrate in my first 2 coats and add more in my following coats. I sold the minijet 3000 hvlp a couple of years ago, but from what i remember that gun didn't have the wet/dryer spots in a coat. The first coat looked like a perfect even mist, never had any mottling issue with it with candies. I'm wondering if a hvlp aircap for the 4400 will make it more like the 3000 hvlp, because the RP definately doesn't spray the same.
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
The HVLP cap does spray different to the RP so may help, I actually prefer the RP for most things but Sata recommend HVLP for basecoat, I used the HVLP setup on the 4400 for this Candy yellow kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5zUgmSGnsyiqNk
@Harolddespui2 жыл бұрын
@@peteshobbies5383 Okay i understand you always use a basecoat binder for your candy concentrates? I always use a 2k clearcoat where i mix the candy in (HOK kk), which could maybe be slightly more prone to mottling. By the way, bying a hvlp cap for the SRI Pro is no option overhere where i live, it's almost as expensive as a whole new gun. Crazy. The Sata aircaps are more reasonably priced.
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
@Henno Yes, always a binder, clear coat sprays different to a basecoat as you will know so that may well be the reason
