'Brosse' is the French word for 'brush'. This single stroke technique can be used for a wide variety of looks, but it is most popularly used to mimic the look of a foil highlight.

Absolutely TRUE!!! I am not a credentialed "Hairstylist/Haircolorist"....but I do know a LOT about painting...and hair-painting is extremely interesting to me. Candy points out the importance of respecting tools and their purpose. In ANY field of crafts-work...many of the very best artists do exactly what she says....use the right tool for the right purpose....keep them in pristine condition....and always when in use: place them in the same order/position. It saves you time (and as "time is money" that Is VERY important)...and keeps your project rolling along smoothly. When I create art...I know where each tool is placed....and while I study my art to decide my next move: I can put my hand down on the exactly correct tool without even looking at what my hand is reaching for. It's seamless...keeps my "vibe" going...and omits frustration from the creative process. So many analogies between "Balayage" (hair painting) and other crafts. Different media: similar processes.

Organisation & order also means you work well & clients aren't seeing someone who is all over the place..instead it gives them confidence!

very good info Candy thanks for your sharing. I took a break from hair and earned a BSS degree after selling a salon business but missed doing hair so I now needed new info for the trends now. I will definitely be using these ideas. Love Wella too!

THANK YOU for FINALLY speaking out about all the photos on Yelp, Instagram and Facebook of STYLED, CURLED backs of heads? I am not a stylist but do not wear my hair curled and to me the front should be shown as well. I also believe alot of the before and after's could easily be the afters looking like befores if you remove all the curls and styling and air blow the hair again. I want to see the front, sides and backs - straight so I can see the work how it really is. Anyway, THANK YOU so much for pointing this out. Its frustrating as I find stylists that post thousands of photos but all looking like hair extensions makes you wonder?

as a stylist I will tell you that if you want a dimensional look with wanting balayage you have to curl it. The more curl the more dimension because balayage is literally painting the surface. Sooo many people want "balayage" but expect highlights type of dimension and that's not how it works.

@ Rebecca Gardner (you did not choose to leave a "reply" option on your question....so I am responding here). Candy has another video posted that discusses how she mixes her product and developer for balayage. She mixes it quite thick (with a whisk) so that it goes exactly where she wants it...and it "stays put". There is less transfer of color onto areas where it is not wanted when doing the hair painting with that method of preparing the product for use.

Always either 40 or 50v for the entire head. You can always rinse the back if it lifts before the front 💛
