I think Candyman is one of the most underrated horror movies. Sadly, too many people wrote it off as "just another slasher" (akin to something like Friday the 13th part 4) but it was so much more than that. It was a beautifully sad Gothic tale that touched on themes of race relations, classism, anti-miscegenation, bigotry, urban folklore, etc. Tony Todd gave an amazing performance as one of the classiest horror villains ever with some serious Phantom of the Opera like vibes and Philip Glass' score perfectly captures the whole Gothic tone of the movie. I hope the 2020 sequel keeps that same Gothic horror air to it.

@@Mozee854 You don’t know that, when you watch a trailer your expectations will be low before you will see it, then it’ll be better than what you last just watched. Tony Todd is returning or having a brief cameo, because the main character Anthony who is the baby Helen saved in the first movie as well as returning cast members, might be also reborn as Candyman, there might be two. Jordan Peele with his horror films never disappoint, this movie is a spiritual sequel to the original Candyman. It might ignore the original sequels or not, depends if it’s in a different timeline like Halloween. This continuation, is more modern stylized. In my opinion, Clive Barker stories/movies seem to often be underrated or overlooked not because of their graphic content or because people don't understand, but more so I feel, because they don't want to understand them. These are horrors movies that go beyond scares and thrills. These movies dig deep into the inner most depths of our mind and soul. They deliver ideas and thoughts that many don't know how to handle or are too afraid to acknowledge that they exist. Even the music does a terrific job at illustrating this. Phillip Glass composed a melody and chord arrangement that sounds as if it belongs in some timeless romance, but instead it belongs to the opposite. It plays with us and disarms us. These artistic stories open up the question, what is the difference between horror and fantasy? Our individual answers can sometimes differ greatly from one another. The line between good and evil, malevolent and benevolent behavior can often times be blurred. Sometimes we catch a glimpse of our true selves in the mirror and don't like what we see, and sometimes we look and smile. Just as that famous line from Hellraiser goes, "we are demons to some, angels to others." Clive Barker's stories have a way of showing each and everyone of us what we are.... angels and demons.

My late brother loved the original film, and I grew to love it too. It's definitely more than just a horror)slasher film. Definitely gothic and tragic love themes there. This piano theme I have just revisited. It's just as hauntingly beautiful as before. A piano intro you hear and instantly connect.

The only movie that ever truly scared me. I was 12 when I saw this in theaters in 1992, it shook me up. I'm a horror fanatic and have seen hundreds of horror films, but this one just got to me in a way no other film had.

so sepulchral, so terrifying, so powerful, any theme for a horror saga never be like this, a almost heavenly masterpiece with a painful touch, resemble a choir of sad children with tragic stories to tell while they sing, a immortal classic like the most darker myths.

Heeeeeelen. Underrated and better than most slasher movies. Great themes, set locations were different and Tony Todd is perfect. I hope this year's version doesn't ruin it or try to change the origins. L

They did change the story, but I mean having that origin in a movie nowadays is dangerous because of the backlash

The vibe this movie gives me is a child's fear of death. It's such a terrifying and vulnerable feeling.

I agree arjo it was one of the most chilling movies of all time especially the theme songs that took place into it I'm a 80's guy and this was a good one in the early 90's

The score mixed with the cinematography might make Candyman 1 of if not the creepiest horror movies of all time. I had many a sleepless nights after watching this when I was a kid. And I still watched it numerous times.

I love this soundtrack, that feeling of glory and folklore. Candyman being the folklore, Helen the one he glorifies, or the glory that Helen did at the end of the movie and where the soundtrack felt so in place.

The thing with Candyman is the persona of all things and things to come . It touches where others dare to touch.

I’ve always loved this theme! So beautiful, yet haunting. Fits well with Candyman’s origin and the time that he was alive with this piece sounding so classical.

This song should be listened to with candles at night in a room with lots of space it is so beautiful you don't have to associate it with a horror movie if you don't want to and it'll still be captivating and transport you somewhere else
