Great video Gary....you've given us all the reasons for your preference. They all make sense. In Tai Chi, hip leads - body follows. The circular motion of the left hand counter-balancing a right strike cannot be underestimated. Tennis pldgers do it. Football players do it. Street knife-fighters do it....protect with the left, strike with the right. Hip and turn.

One of your best training videos. I never really thought about losing reach with a double handed strike--just about the amount of damage it would cause. Now I know. Your info on using your shoulder and hip will really help, but nobody ever talks about a backhand strike and exactly how to add power to it through hip and shoulder movement. I've tried various combinations but I still don't think I'm getting maximum power into the swing. I could really use some help on that.

But this thing is really hard core ! I dont want to chop anyone in half or cut their hands off. Just too extreme for me. And i feel my cane would be worthless for clubbing someone, which began my search and I happened upon your channel. I heard that with one handed strikes your cane bounces back, when you use both hands that doesn't happen✌️

You do have more power with a 2 handed swing on the single hand strikes it also depends on how well you are holding your cane. But with both kinds of strikes there is a chance of that happening.

Very useful psychological analysis of combat: "Oh he's got a weapon, let me get mine....." If you can read the psychology of your opponent, then you are half way into defeating him!
