#railroad #train #railway I have spent a considerable amount of time on these machines and thought I should bring this to you. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Cane Railways.

Never ceases to amaze me how they can stay on a 2ft wide guage without falling off.

You will be amazed what it takes to derail a train! There have been times when I have thought I am going to be in the dirt and came out fine.

Cool to see a bit of what goes on on the cane railways, a lot similar and a lot different to what we do with the coalies, mind you, id pay money to have automated couplers.

In October 2023, I travelled to Bundaberg and Childers, amazing little tracks that go to many farms. The tracks show up in Mapy app.

Put in for the cane railways mate. A position as a Driver Assistant is an entry level position and you will be trained up to RSU it takes at least 3 seasons to become an RSU operator. I enjoy it greatly, but, there will be those days. Keep your chin up, do your job safely and you'll be fine

Amazing video, I'm currently a loco driver up in the herbert region, and your lines are much flatter and in better shape than ours up here😅 Our top speed is only 25kmph on our mainline up here and half of our mainline is only suitable for 24-26 tonne locos, our 40 tonne locos can only do so much, mainly out bambaroo way.
@kylegleeson86383 ай бұрын
I was thinking of coming up that way this season, playing with some Baldwins instead of 40 tonners every day. The flat terrain and repetition is boring me. Not only that if something happens on the main at Giru you can forget about cane supply! There really isn't a challenge except for Barratta Creek, and if you head out on an overtime shift to Millaroo. However, I will be heading to Plane Creek this year. Doin something different 😁 Did they sort out the RSU on Brissie and Clem.? Giru has been a pain in the arse

Cool video. What is the length of the network, you said you went 80 odd km from the mill on this job. Is the cane harvested all year round, if not what do you do in the off times? Hi from NZ, Anthony
@kylegleeson86387 ай бұрын
Oh man, I should have thought about that. My test audience know a little too much about my job! The longest run is roughly 116km out to Dalbeg with the total network track being close to 240km. Invicta processes just under four million tonnes of sugar cane from June to the end of November or Early December. I wasn't able to get a video heading into the mill, but, a full rake of 200 bins gets consumed by the mill in an hour! I am currently volunteering at the Southern Downs Steam Railway in South East Queensland and have made enough money to do a bit of travelling

Did they buy the couplings from former soviet railways? They look very similar to SA-3 couplers!
@kylegleeson86386 ай бұрын
Hey annyer262, the couplers used on the couplers are called Willison Automatic Couplers, they have been manufactured locally at Bradken and are now purchased from China. Interesting to see other railways use the same style of couplers!

Great Video mate. I do have one enquiry though, If someone was to perhaps '' volunteer '' and shadow a driver for experience would this be allowed at the cane railways? Or would you know when your next intake could be? Thanks
@kylegleeson86387 ай бұрын
If you are suggesting cab rides, you've gotta be good friends with drivers. Locomotive Drivers Assistant positions are advertised around April/May. These are entry level positions and you will be trained up to drive these trains

@@kylegleeson8638 Thanks for the reply mate. Are interstate applicants encouraged to apply?
@kylegleeson86386 ай бұрын
@@railwayofthesouthwest A few years ago we have had a NSW bloke come up to do the job. A NZ resident retired last season so it is a possibility. The only thing that could happen is your application isn't successful. Do put in for a few mills and try your luck!
