This comment was made a while ago but yeah this fight was close but still. Clear winner its not like lara out landed by much and canelo landed far power shots while also checking off all the criteria in a boxing match effective aggression ring generalship and defense its clear canelo has better defense because he came foward while lara moved back just using movement for defense which clearly wasn't that effective. I'm not a huge fan of andre ward or Mayweather or Bernard Hopkins but the still had good fun fights using that outboxer style lara didn't do that at all

I love a strategic boxer that dances around, in and out. Lara was playing a scared game of tag. In survival mode ever since he got checked. Guess he thought he was clever, but I was expecting a boxing fight. Canelo was ready to go at it, while Lara thinks he on "So You Think You Can Dance". Most part of the fight, Lara spends his time in running, throws a couple of punches, and then just running around.. It's hard to give the rounds to a fighter like Lara if you are a judge.. At first, when I only saw highlights of this fightI , I thought Lara should have won this..but when I watched the whole fight, I thought the decision was fair, except for the 117 - 111 given by one judge😷

Big difference in how Lara fought on the back foot and how Canelo did . Lara is a better athlete so his movements are more fluent, while Canelo had to adjust to that style . In this fight Lara did not engage as soon as he felt threatened he moved away, while Canelo engaged with golovkin but did is not that type of athlete they’re for getting tired by the 5th . Lara lost this fight by points.

I remember I saw the fight 7-5 for Lara in 2014 thinking could gone either way. Now, I have it 7-5 to Canelo. There are so many clear body punches, and many rounds where Lara gets away without connecting his own punches.

This was designed purposely so the Ref could call any shots to that (area of the BODY) a low blow. That was a subtle form of cheating Alvarez from landing legit body blows. That's disgraceful.

Honestly it's a damn shame how Lara let this fight slip from him. He could've easily won this fight but he started to get tired with all that movement he was doing. I mean Lara got sloppy he even slipped twice during the fight. Not to mention he held back a lot after Canelo cut his left eye. Canelo deserves the win, Lara definitely controlled half the fight but it's all about how you finish and he didn't convince the judges.

I dont if I'm the only one who thinks this but BACK then I used to think Lara won this fight but the more I rewatch this I start favoring canelo more and more, and it pisses me off that people call Floyd a "runner" but floyd actually hit his opponents at a consistent pace and would make them miss at the same time, unlike Lara who imo is the better example of a runner because he DEFINITELY won most of the earlier rounds but there were points in the fight where he was just moving to GET AWAY from canelo and not even throwing a single punch in the later rounds and I start to realize that Lara was running most of the 2nd half of the fight then boxing, idk but what yall think???

I agree. Lara was shy and defs avoided exchanging in the pocket. He felt those body shots early on and respected canelos power. He had the punch count only, but clean, effective agression, clean power punches and ring control were all canelo. Fair win. A rematch would’ve been good though.

Punchstats have nothing to do with judging a fight lol. They're registered by people pushing buttons on the sidelines so they're just as susceptible to human bias and error. On top of that, they don't even account for quality so a grazing arm punch will be registered as a connect the same as a flush power shot. But a professional judge is obviously going to determine the difference. Much of the work Lara was given credit for on punchstats were grazing shots or arm punches a lot of them deflected, and they didn't dissuade Canelo from closing in and doing his work. On the other hand, Canelo was landing the bigger and more effective shots especially to the body that forced Lara to concede exchanges throughout.

Para mi 115-113 para Canelo... tuvo combinaciones más largas y golpes más contundentes, a menos que consideren erroneamente que golpear al cuerpo vale menos (como parece ser con los de showtime"), Lara no tuvo ninguna combinación (como dijeron los narradores), dependió únicamente del "uno dos" y corrió demasiado, se vio como una mala imitación de Mayweather, sin equilibrio, sin inteligencia. Me gustaría ver una revancha en 160 (Lara pesó eso la noche de la pelea, asi que no hay excusas) actualmente, para ver como Canelo lo hace pedazos.
