Canibus was one of the best battle rappers ever. He went against the likes of LL cool J. Canibus accused em on ghostwriting one of LLs diss tracks, but em didn't do it. Later Canibus apologized and asked Em to do a song with him. But Em felt like canibus verse on that song was dissing him, so he refused. As far as I remember that's how the beef started. They dissed each other multiple times on album songs, and both can go hard. In my opinion Eminem won as canibus became absolutely obsessed with their beef while eminem continued to build his career like a normal artist.

One of my favourite Em tracks, it was leaked and not finished/meant to be released. Canibis was, in many peoples view the black Eminem. If I remember rightly he started getting a buzz the same time as Em but got cocky, invited eminem to a music video set but was an asshole to him pretty much. He was also beefing with LL cool J (see the 4321 stuff) and accused Eminem of writing the 2and round ko track. Jermain Dupri gets a mention because he said he was the greatest producer ever or something which offended Dre and Timberland. Pet shop boys said something about Eminem being homophobic so that's why he ran those over. I love how hes not taking it serious but really wants a reaction.

Even if some say that Canibus wins with The Ballad lyrically which I personally disagree with... it’s Eminem’s confident preaching style of rap that forces chills down my arms which gets me every time he is lyrical of course but makes him stand out to me is that what he does is that he at the same time comes with jokes, emotion, such confidence, and he on purposefully starts off his verses slightly slow and then he builds it up to eventually get you.... if you listen to him you catch it frequently... he did it on the Friday Night Cypher he started off chill then he built on as he continues and the best example I have is that if you listen to Killshot he starts off really slow and came with clowning jokes for MGK and then right at the Climax he says “had to give you a career to destroy it” as soon as he says that line he then built up and blurts out loud “LETHAL INJECTION GO TO SLEEP SIX FEET DEEP I GIVE YOU A B FOR THE EFFORT EVEN IF I WAS 3 FEET ELEVEN YOUD LOOK UP TO ME AND 4 THE RECORD YOUD SUCK A FUCKIN DICK TO BE ME FOR A SECOND!” excuse my shitty punctuation skills but you get the jist and then all the while it was like he was playing with the numbers and letters if you noticed he said 3’11 6 feet deep A B 4 the record then a second which is basically the number 1

Remember class, Em's "diss tracks" didn't really come out until his THIRD album. Meaning that Em had already established himself as a "marketable" artist. Then his got into his "beefs" with Canibus, Benzino and Ja Rule, and established himself as a "diss track monster". So, you now have people who actually think that Em came out of the blocks instantly "dissing" other rappers 1st, when he wasn't. Em may have had a couple of "beefs" start when he was coming up, but Em wasn't throwing out diss tracks until AFTER he was already selling albums. People were thinking that they would end Em's career because he "only had 2 albums" under his belt at the time compared to their multiple albums or multiple awards. Instead, one by one they got completely knocked out of the game and Em has been going strong for 20+ years without ANYONE being able to do any real harm to Em's career. In fact, the "beef tracks" actually BOOSTED Em's career because it gave him a ton of diss tracks that make people ask "Who is Em beefing with". Or in other words, Em bodied people so hard that new listeners have no idea who Em is talking about or WHAT they did in order to GET Em to talk about them in the first place.

Germaine Williams as he's known by his birth name is a Queensbridge rapper by association, who was well known as that "bubbling" artist who never "blew up" as a result of dirty politics which were triggered by a beef with LL Cool J after 4, 3, 2, 1 went sour because of a line Canibus spit about trying to "borrow" the microphone tattoo on LL's arm. I'll spare you all those details, but it's very important to note that most of the trouble regarding him blowing up was that his style was very unorthodox and before the introduction of Rip the Jacker (his alter ego) he actually had a pretty good heart compared to many other rappers in the 90s. If you would like one song that I assure you will reconfigure your feelings about him, please listen to "I Honor U" which is a song about mothers (a topic I'm sure we can all appreciate). Finally, as far as legendary status, he is a legend in his own right and deserves to be commemorated somehow in the Temple of Hip Hop. Ask KRS about that.
