Canik TP9 Elite Combat Executive--Did it Survive 1k Rounds?

Today we take a look at Salient Arms collaboration with Canik. It’s their top tier pistol offering from the TP9 lineup. Was it great? Was it worth the cash? Yes, but there are some questions left at the end of the 1k round review. I put this pistol through 1k rounds of 115, 124, and 147 grain ammo in two weeks. She was mag in aside from some screw issues.

My brother owns an executive with over 7500 rounds with not a single failure. I just got one for my birthday 2 weeks back. Only about 300 rounds deep so far, but from what my brother says, I would take this to war in a heartbeat. I've shot Glocks, XDs, and S&W, The Canik walks all over those guns. It's so much easier to shoot fast. I would need to sink around $300-400 dollars into my XD just to get it close to my Canik.

Excellent and thanks for the comment. I have specific concerns as to why I would not take this into war with me, narrowed down to available resources. How many others do you think, unless we are fighting the Turkish government, would have the same mags/pistols as you? Not many. This is one of only a couple of my hang ups with them. Yes, great polymer pistols, very underrated, and well priced. I like them, but I’ll still have my Glocks and/or Sigs. Still doesn’t take away from how great the pistol is. Plus, this is just a concern of mine and probably isn’t shared very much within the community. Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing. Only have those numbers on my Glock 34 and x5 legion.

Canik is used in duty in Turkey so it’s kinda been proven to be as reliable as other military guns granted we don’t pay attention to that because it’s not as popular or old as glocks but they are proven in duty

I have a few more than 2000 rounds thru mine and I absolutely love this pistol! It can definitely out shoot me! An amazing gun for the price, you won’t regret getting one.

I have about 3000 rounds through mine and have never had any issues including light primer strikes. I can work the gun extremely fast and would not think twice about taking it into combat. Thanks for review

Been using my in the Tac classes I have been taking. I usually run my Sig but have found a new happiness with this one. Have to say I have yet to install the Vortex. No intention either. The Pistol has definitely gotten my attention after the paces it has been put through since last November. Have about 2300 rounds through it and it has been flawless. The trigger double tap was a suprise the first time out with it, very short reset.

I have not. The only platform I’ve shot from Walther was the Q5 match pro. I have heard nothing but good things about the pdp though. I may rent one today just to see what she is like. Trying to find a new conceal carry for my wife!

The TP series came out over a decade ago. If the there were reliability issues I think they'd have come to light by now.

Reliability wasn’t an issue for me. It comes down to preference, and I prefer other pistols in the same class with equal value or even less. Still not a bad pistol.

I put a Talon Grips grip on mine. It made a huge difference.

Canik is extremely reliable. The rival can take 30K rounds with full efficiency on the same parts.

I sold mine before I got to 2k so I’ll have to nut up and a Canik-S sometime soon. They are fun guns to shoot for sure, just hated the way it ran 146/150 gr and won this one in a raffle for $20. Seeing as it didn’t peak my interest as I already have two competition pistols, I sold it for money to finance an SBR build I was working on. One of these days I’ll give her the good ole 20k round test. My Glock 34 Gen 5 is well over 10k and hasn’t had anything in need of replacement aside from mag springs. I picked up a brass back strap from Taylor for mine and it really helped with the grip.

Good to know, I appreciate the help. Canik makes a good firearm. I just much prefer the bigger grip in full size. I’ll probably grab another Canik at some point in the near future, but may be going towards the PDP rather soon.

Great review man. I understand completely what you mean by taking it to war. I’d rather have a Glock or Sig due to the availability of mags and possibility others have the same parts. I get it along with those shitty screws. They are beyond cheap.
