A few realities: 1) you two don't have the skills of Cesar Milan 2) it's clear you can only handle extremely submissive domesticated canines 3) again you don't have the skills to work with Lions etc. maybe that should clue you in to removing your ignorance on managements skills with canines that aren't submissive furniture 4) quit trying to minimize EXECUTING and Murder with euphemisms

Reality check…. Cesar Milan is a celebrity who cant manage his own dog that killed at least one dog and attacked at least one person causing life changing damage. 2) We are not talking about placing working dogs with experienced handlers, we are talking about placing back yard bred genetic disasters with Susie Q soccer mom in suburbia or Joe Blow in the inner city that wants a “guard dog” in his studio apartment. 3) Just because it’s good with me or you or 1 staff member doesn’t mean it is fit to live with anyone else. I have “top of the food chain” guard dogs. I am the last stop before EBI for my breed. I have many good friends who raise and train working K9s. Our time is spent explaining to people why they don’t want these dogs not pawning them off on anyone we can. 4) management fails 99.9% of the time. Even the best pet owner in the world can not control the actions of other people. Lastly, genetics matter, all dog breeds have genetic traits, you can not train them away. Pointers point even in pet homes.

Question: do you actually consider Cesar Milan a good trainer? Like... that you genuinely think he has skills? Have you seen his handiwork with Holly, i believe shes a yellow lab. He literally hits her with a closed fist. That is ignorance of the highest order. Why dont you share right here a link to what you consider to be a great trainer and their techniques. Even better, your videos

And you’re just the kind of dumbfuck who thinks a few “tshh’s” would override the insane genetics of a backyard bred monstrosity whose predatory and game impulses are not those of a normal dog, then being mystified when your “pack leader” “skills” don’t prevent Hennessy or Kaleesi or whatever stupid name you give it from disfiguring the neighbor’s kid.

I wish more shelters were this realistic and responsible as this one is. 10k dogs are killed by pitbulls every year. 50k animals (cats, livestock, etc) killed each year. 50+ human deaths yearly. Hundreds of disfigurations. Thousands of injured pets each year. These numbers would go down significantly if more shelters were this honest about bully breed instincts and genetics.

The Center for Disease Control that keeps official statistics on dog bites and fatalities disagrees with your "facts". There's NO evidence to support what you claim and research into reports of such happenings have largely been debunked by the CDC. Pits are no more inclined to attack than any other dog. These are the real conversations that are needed. Keeping a dog alive for the sake of it over their quality of life is cruel. In the ideal world every dog would have a loving home. However shelter life is hard on any dog. It's unfair for dogs who will never be able to be homed safely to live like that, knowing no reprieve is possible. Is a lifetime jail sentence under maximum stress humane? No. Tough decisions have to be made for the sake of these dogs. Warehousing dogs is cruel and needs to end. Dogs with a real chance of a good life functioning happily need those spaces. Dogs deserve the best we can give them. Sometimes that's not the Disney ending. Sometimes it's peace from their suffering.

My shep was considered very aggressive at the shelter. In reality these places are extremely stressful and he had no one to trust and didn't feel safe. After fighting with the behaviorist for his life I adopted him and took him home. In a year I gained his trust, got him to understand he is safe by following these guidelines. Taught him to heel off leash, have perfect recall, eliminated food aggression with people and other dogs, got him to take care of a guinea pig, and go into public spaces like breweries, festivals, and dog parks. We did that all in the first year and I only took the steps when I knew he was ready. Now 8 years later we also volunteer at the retirement centers and he loves cuddling up with elderly people and running around with the neighborhood kids. Euthanasia is not the dogs fault it is the humans. Unfortunately people treat dogs like playthings or cuddly stuffed animals rather than real creatures. Sure we unfortunately can't take the time for all of them but it's because we as a society failed them, not that they are horrible dogs. They just weren't able to have the time to feel safe or understand the guidelines that they need to follow in this human dominated world.

@sammygirl6910 Yes, I am. The guinea pig was not mine. She was one of my roommates. She was an awful person and left the poor thing out sometimes on the couch to use the bathroom, so I had to teach my dog so nothing bad happened. He took it so seriously that he even alerted me when she was out of food and water. Saved the poor things life as she was in my roommates bedroom where I couldn't see her. I would come home and sometimes I would see them napping together. You know dogs do protect prey animals all of the time. That is what livestock guardian dogs and herding dogs are for? I plan to have chickens one day, and I want them to be free-range, so I will be training my dogs to protect them.

So glad to see professionals working hard to do the best for aggressive dogs and the community. You can't "rescue" bite risk animals. Some animals have DNA that is backing behavior issues that will never allow them to be safe in civilization. You can't provide a quality of life that is fulfilling for these dogs, and the humane thing is to euthanize them. So many shelters put flower crowns and tutu's on animals, and say mild things like "best in a home with no other animals or small children", which is just code for "kills anything smaller than itself". On top of that, many of these dogs are pit bull variants. They were never nanny dogs. They were bred for blood sports, to attack without warning, to bite and maim, and ignore pain, and continue until they have killed their prey. Those instincts survive in modern dogs, which is why so many dog bite fatalities are from bully breeds. You can't cure bad genetics with good intentions. Some dogs just do not belong in polite society.

What amazes me is the shelters know pits and other power breeds are different. They require stronger cages and panic buttons for staff. The same shelters tell adopters that "they are just dogs" once they take one home. It was refreshing to you 2 ladies mention public safety. That seems to have been lost. It is all about the aggressive dogs. No one seems to care about the people and animals in the communities those dogs wind up in. No kill was supposed to be then of killing adoptable animals just becase their time is up. None of the dogs shown here were adoptable.

Nobody that works with animals wants to euthanize them. NOBODY. These hard working men and women are doing incredibly hard work. These dogs are incredibly dangerous, there is never a situation where these dogs will be safe in society - they will have to go to the vets, on walks, have neighbours ect ect. One slip up could lethal. Not only that but they are sitting in cages for years taking up the spot of an adoptable dog?? I've been working around dogs for 5 + years in various avenues and sometimes it is just kinder to give them a peaceful death. Thank you for doing this incredibly hard work.

Exactly! And that's what bothers me so much about shelters that do not euthanize known aggressive dogs. They have behaviorists working with them - sure. But the problem is that the people/families who adopts these dogs ARE NOT behaviorists themselves. So they are not likely to keep up the necessary routine and discipline. Add to that a child and you're just asking for something to happen. Shelters are overflowing and will put down dogs simply because they had them for more than two weeks and have to make room for the next batch. Meanwhile, no kill shelters that pull from kill-shelters are adopting aggressive breeds to save them and trying to fix them. Just think of the space and resources that would be made available for dogs without aggressive behavioral issues!

Yep. Sweet-natured dogs get put to sleep all of the time while other dogs with serious problems get "Rehab." Something I've noticed in my city (Vegas) is that it's difficult to surrender an aggressive dog. You are sent on a guilt trip & told the animal will be put to sleep, then given the runaround to schedule an appointment. What ends up happening is those dogs are turned loose on the streets in hopes someone else will keep it. If Animal Control picks it up maybe it goes up for adoption possibly putting another family in a bad position. If a dog is aggressive maybe the best thing for it and other people is humane euthanasia. I don't want a dog that can't be cordial with everyone big, small, young, or old. I don't want a dog with a trigger-haired temper. I can deal with potty training, chewing, etc. but aggression is a deal-breaker. As much as I'd love to rescue a dog, I want to have some idea of what I'll be getting. That's why and where a responsible, ethical, supportive breeder is a better choice.

@@FlawlessImperfectionBeauty It's a topic I could go on about forever. I know rescues and shelters want to help every animal, but I think the main focus should be on the most adoptable pets. I also wish people would spend more time thinking and being realistic about what type of dog would be best in their family unit. Huskies are pretty but a handful, need a job, and are escape artists. Sight hounds can be touch-sensitive & not my first choice for a house full of kids. German shepherds, Malinois, Rottweilers, Dobermans are brilliant dogs but tend to wind up in the wrong situation with inadequate training. :(

"Can you imagine these dogs being your neighbor?" Yes. I can. The neighbor behind me had an Italian Mastiff that showed predatory behavior. I have seen aggression, and owned aggressive breeds, but never saw anything like this in 30+ years of dog ownership and 10 years of doing rescue. I was in fear of my life for 2.5 years, because this animal was left out unsupervised and could climb a chain link fence. I do not shake up easily. But nothing has ever affected me so badly. The owners shrugged their shoulders over the entire situation. It was a horrific nightmare. I had been a lifelong dog lover, but do not care for the species any longer almost entirely because of my experience with that dog.

The basis of which they base be life and death decision on is completely unfair and irresponsible. Now don't get me wrong I think the dogs that don't have problems should most definitely always be adopted out first but that doesn't mean that we need to pretend like there's no way to help these other dogs the simple fact of the matter is that there are a lot of good dogs that need to be adopted and they deserve it more than the dogs that have not so good behavior. And honestly even her 'not very interested' behavior is rude/dangerous/inappropriate, just less.

50:30 the reason this dog doesn’t “ communicate “ is because these Gladiator Breeds are bred to not give indication of a imminent attack. That’s what gives them the opera hand when they fight ..... it’s random , unprovoked and brutal...usually drags on past their “ opponents “ death. That’s a Bully breed for you......bred to literally KILL other dogs .....and sometimes people. What a great breed to have in your neighborhood, isn’t it. She is the “family dog”, that mauls a baby, and the family says, “she never bit anyone, she was a good dog, then she just snapped”. All the signs were there, all the body language indicators were there, but the family didn’t notice those subtle yawns, shakes, eye contact, ears back, tail strait up, posturing, dominating scent marking all over the house and the humans in the house! I think MOST people don’t know jack shit about dogs! Just watch dog park videos. You’ll see probably 95% of the humans that have no clue what their dogs are doing. They will see their dog, go and stand with its head over top of another dogs head/neck, and think it’s just cute, & their dog is trying to cuddle. They all the sudden, the other dog nips at their dog. And they think that dog is a bad dog. When in reality, their dog was trying to dominate that dog, and that dog stood up for itself.

I've had dogs my whole life. Normal dogs... One day, a neighbor's young pitbull followed me into my house as I carried in groceries. When I turned around in my kitchen, I was facing it as it stood there watching me. Its body language made my hairs stand on end. It was directly facing me, stiff legged, squared off with eyes staring bluntly forward. I've never had a normal breed face me in that fashion. I had a package of sliced ham in my hand which I ripped open. Next, I dropped slices as I walked, causing it to follow me outside.

Anyone who has worked or volunteered at a shelter for long enough are bound to encounter a couple of dogs that were dangerous to be around. The kennel environment is very hard on dogs, you want them there for as little as possible. Kennel stress can take years off of a dog's life. I worked at a veterinary clinic a few years ago that boarded both client and shelter animals - I distinctly remember an American Bulldog named Rufus who was surrendered due to biting the owners' 4 year old child. The family said they were afraid of him and that he was unpredictable. He would seem ok as you took him out, but on the way back in as you led him into his kennel something would change. He would re-enter the kennel willingly, but would become very still and suddenly turn on the person if they tried to reach into the kennel space again or shut the door behind them. The other staff members and I frequently dealt with him snarling and lunging at us through the bars. He was also very predatory and hyper-focused on other dogs/animals. He was only supposed to stay with us for a week before a rescue or shelter had the space to take him in, but the few who tried to come and pick him up saw this behavior and wouldn't take him because of the liability he posed. He was huge (120 lbs) and I was honestly scared of having to manage a dog like that. It was nearly impossible for us to give him the exercise and stimulation he needed because it was too dangerous for us to handle him. The last rescue that tried to come and take Rufus couldn't get him into the back of the car because he tried to bite and fought with the lady picking him up. He was euthanized after that. He was in the kennel for around 7 weeks and honestly subjecting him to that cell for that amount of time was too long. He had broken teeth and lesions in his mouth from biting the bars as he lunged at people/other dogs. I really don't see how anyone could adopt a dog like that out to anyone in good conscience or try and confine him to a kennel environment just for the sake of keeping him alive. The fact that certain rescues and no-kill shelters will keep these kinds of cases for 2, 3, or even 4+ years in a kenneled environment or dump them on some foster that now has to deal with it blows my mind. Sorry this was kind of long but I think it's important to talk about.

I'm not in favor of dogfighting at all, but I must admit I'm seeing dollar signs watching Ruby in action. She's almost pure muscle, she's powerful and once she's got something in her sights, she sees nothing else. The fact that Ruby was still driven to maul another dog in spite of being severely ill with a fever would make dogfighters fall all over themselves to have her. You will never see more powerful predators in the wild do anything like that...because they haven't had all their intelligence and survival instincts bred out of them. In any other time and place, Ruby would be a champion, maybe even legendary for her prowess. Instead, some fruity little cult is desperately arguing for Ruby's life because they believe they can turn her into the housepet she clearly isn't interested in becoming.

IMO every time a dog goes out to an adopter and then is aggressive , bites, seriously injurers a person or other pet it reduces the number of people who are willing to adopt. Personally I'm aggravated that some "no kill" shelters harbor dogs that will never be suitable for adoption for years, because that causes several more adoptable well tempered dogs at municple shelter to be euthanized due to over crowding instead of being able to off load adoptable dogs to the "no kill" shelter.

These tests have not been validated by multiple experimenters. Both of the two most used behavioral testing animals shelters are primarily promoted by the people that created them. Sue Sternberg created one of the two. They have to use them because they're all they have right now. But it is dangerous to feel sure of the test results. There's just not been enough testing done to feel sure of the results. Once a human being feels sure of something they stop looking for new information. That can result in a lot of dogs being killed that shouldn't have been killed. It can also result in some dogs not being euthanized when they should have. Most people hate uncertainty. But if uncertainty is reality we are doing ourselves and the dog to disservice by ignoring the uncertainty

Which unfortunately happens too late when some naive do-gooder wants to put a flower crown or jam jams on it and then is astonished when it goes from killing the family cat to disfiguring a neighbor’s child. @@Madronaxyz This test legitimizes the murder of dogs. Sue Sternberg shows in several sequences that she misanalyzes that she has no idea about dog behavior and definitely hates dogs. The pit bull that chases and shakes the toy dog: is completely inconspicuous and social with humans. Ms. Sternberg proves her incompetence by judging the dog as antisocial. This dog even puts up with the crazy rummaging around in the food. The one who actually expresses antisocial behavior here is Ms. Sternberg. She's a real satan for dogs. She has dogs put to sleep that are inconspicuous because they are not compatible with dog parks. Since Mrs. Sternberg does not know this in her incompetence: pretty much every working breed bred for reactivity is incompatible with members of the same sex. 🤭🤭 The whole attitude of this woman and with her many Americans towards dogs is sick. First they screw up dogs, then they are killed in so-called shelters. DOGS need to be protected from people like Sue Sternberg.

THANK YOU! It's Pits/mixes, ALL THE TIME. My neighborhood and surrounding area have so many "rescue" pits/mixes. You see the owners being pulled down the sidewalk (cause they don't know how to control their pits). The only problems we've ever had, is with the pits that ALWAYS escape from their homes. I can't even mention this without people going completely ballistic on me. I'm the "bad" guy for speaking out. I've done so much research. I've owned TWO pits on 2 separate occasions. The first was dog aggressive. The second was dog AND people aggressive. It was awful. I got rid of both because of the aggression. The second one would have ABSOLUTELY killed one of our neighbors. Anyhow, thank you for your honesty. It took owning two of these to finally realize, it's the genetics. Oh, I've noticed that when children/adults are killed by these monsters, they almost always get to live, and the owners almost always have no repercussions. It's really really bad. I wish you could speak to all my neighbors who think this behavior is normal!!

I think it's fair to say that there may be a higher proportion of bully breeds that are aggressive towards, well anything. However, it's important to keep in mind that not all bully breed dogs are like that. Some breeders actively select for sociability and some bully dogs that wind up in the rescue system are quite gentle. Personally, in my 10+ years of animal care experience, I've seen more Labradors attack other dogs than I've seen bullies attack other dogs. Labradors are supposed to have a very low likelihood of dog-dog aggression given the breed's historical uses. My evidence is anecdotal, but the point is we can't use a broad brush to paint a whole breed group one color. It leads people back to believing that if they avoid one specific kind of dog, they'll be safe. It means they're more likely to interpret the behavior of a block-headed dog as aggressive, while labeling the same behavior from a golden long-haired dog as excited. And I'm saying bully breeds to encompass a number of different breeds that get mistaken for "pitbulls" and actual American Pit Bull Terriers. Most people can't identify a real pit bull from a line up, especially when mixed with other breeds. My own dog has been mistaken for a pit mix, and she has no bully breeds in her.

I don't understand how; Saying that something does not make a good pet, is the same as hating it. There are tons of animals that I can say for certain doesn't make good pets, and I don't hate any of them. There are also tons of dog breeds that are not for everyone, acknowledging that is really important if you want these dogs to have a good home and it is not the same as hating these breeds.

Dogs should not act like that. Sometimes euthanasia really is the only thing left, because I can't imagine an indoor sanctuary that would provide not a good, but a passable quality of life to Ruby. As a recovering human warrior, its as plain as day... Many men and women were bred, born, and conditioned for war, it's an extraordinary thing. Physicality has little to do with it as well, it is a psychological pathos that can be expressed in as many ways as can be imagined. It is our human social expression of negative emotion, and as such presents a threat to rhe very fabric of society. Militancy is a societies dogmatic doctrine that weilds war for the sake of casting dominion, protecting advantage and guarding primacy out of fear of the other, or out groups. This animal is a victim of that. It is a force of nature, bent to our will explicitly to serve as an instrument of war. She is a war hound. Most people can't fully understand as even if the study is their specialty, its not their being and its not likely to ever be or have been. Its a remarkable to even attempt to intentionally break your programing and place in society. For those focusing on the fact that these are all bully breeds... You're missing the point. Dangerous dogs exist in all breed groups, and not all bully breed dogs are aggressive. Trying to use broad categories to identify potentially dangerous dogs is a dangerous practice in itself. The biggest problem is that it leads people to miss all of the dogs who are aggressive but don't have the overall "look" that people associate with aggression. Read the body language and behavior, not the breed label.

Pit Bulls have EARNED their reputation by mauling and/or killing more people, pets and livestock than all other breeds COMBINED. The problem with you pit bull advocates is that you don't understand math and statistics. That's why you don't get it that pit bull type-dogs are the most dangerous breed type to own. @@julieveggie you didn't read my post. I'm not a "pit bull advocate". I don't go around trying to tell people that "pit bulls" or any bully breed are "nanny dogs", or something like that. I absolutely believe in a genetic predisposition towards some types of behavior. No, this isn't an owner problem (not entirely anyway). I'm a big fan of Sue Sternberg and her work in this area. I'm definitely not the person you should be attacking. My point was that this hyper-focus on dogs that look a certain way leads to biases that prevent people from seeing the actual problem behaviors. If people are automatically calling a dog dangerous because it has a blocky head, are they going to notice when a labrador retriever is behaving in a dangerous manner? I'm not saying we shouldn't have heightened risk awareness around certain breeds. The dogs they are evaluating are big, powerful dogs with the potential to cause very serious harm. I'm saying that we need to focus on the specific behaviors that are dangerous and not how a dog looks. Otherwise, we're never going to reduce dog bites. I'm a dog safety advocate. I want people to know how to recognize when something is wrong and how to keep everyone safe. I've definitely advocated for behavioral euthanasia in cases where I don't think a dog can be kept safe. But I look at the body language because that's the best predictor of aggression, not breed. In the past, I've heard Sue Sternberg say that there are a higher proportion of aggressive pit-bull-type dogs than not. I don't disagree with her. But she still doesn't say ALL bully dogs are bad. In the evaluations she's doing, we don't mark dogs down for being a certain breed. We mark dogs down for showing or not showing certain behaviors. That's why it's a behavior evaluation. We also need to change people's views on behavioral euthanasia. In my opinion, that should be the biggest take away here. We're putting individual dogs we know to be dangerous into the public because we don't want to kill dogs. That needs to stop.

I rescued my pitbull before even made it to the shelter animal control was on the way and someone had tied her up to a railing she got into a little scuffle with my dog for a couple seconds but they got along after they ended up getting into three fights with each other I believe over jealousy the first one happened after we only had her two weeks while we were on vacation with her in a cabin in rule Vermont our buddy was playing rough with them with the rope and there were three dogs the second time they got into a fight was in my living room when that same friends girlfriend came over and they got over excited and then the third time they fought was when me and my ex broke up and she took the dogs to a new apartment and it was so bad that she had to pepper spray them for them to stop I'm talking about a 4-year-old American Staffordshire terrier some people call pit bulls and a 3-year-old American pitbull then after that the aggressive Chihuahua that lives downstairs was loose and came up to her and they got into a scuffle and the neighbor was screaming and someone was trying to break it up by hitting her in the face with a stick because I was picking her up off the ground so she didn't thrash the smaller dog around before all this she was not aggressive towards other dogs she's great with people but with dogs she is really bad now starts breathing heavy hair stands straight up and she just charges at them or pulls very hard on the leash trying to go towards them and she freaks out when they walk by the house whining barking and even coughing from freaking out can this be reversed

Kennel agression is a real thing and even the calm dogs will act up, so don't confuse this with "aggression". Shelters are not the best place to judge "troubled" dogs. Too many scents, smells different people to allow a "shelter dog to decompress. With that being said: TOH had a dog who was a court case due to "animal aggression attached 2 dogs by "running free, pushing thru doors" and he is in a perfect home today, so when there are people who understand their needs and can meet them , they truly can be rehabilitated. There has to be a need, 2 years were wasted "NOT" helping Ruby at TOB. So all of this is fine and sounds good but this 1% of your population that really needed a PLAN it did not happen. Sad, but true. Kim Strong dogs all found homes by the Rescue that took over all but 4, 3 went to small scantuaries and one had a shelter build for him (mind you Benson NEVER bit any animal or person). There was a plan and UCC found them all placements and took euthanasia off the table. I believe you should also!

and far as "size matters; this dog at TOH was almost 100 pounds" So filming her equal instead of peaceful decompression and quiet time saddens me completely. Where is her help? Do this same session with a volunteer who understand Ruby, and lets compare; one sided shows are not convincing me and truth be told looks like a set up. Again taking a toy for 5 min and testing her is sad at best, quietly sit and let her play for 1/2 hour with a toy, and "lunge aways" go away, zero sociability is not a valid conclusion. This is not helping your cause, its a "SHOW".

Did you not listen at all? It is a small shelter and all dogs have two hours a day of individual attention where they can exercise train and have quiet time with a person doing nothing. They do enrichment feeding exclusively. This behavioral specialist knows Ruby very well. Better than the uneducated people trying to place this dangerous dog in the community. you are seeing Sue Sterberg's assess a pet test. All behavior tests have to put gentle humane stresses on the dog to see how they react. You are watching at test. If you can't see this dog has zero sociability, you're completely lost.
