A dog with a purpose in life. Some ppl keep German shepherds and keep them indoors on the sofa and call them part of the family. If you're not ready to work your dog don't get one.

Exactly that's why so many german shepherd have depression. If you want a dog for those purposes (lying around, not working) get a maltese or pug or something not a german shepherd which is meant to be one of the most energetic breeds itw

I agree. Unless you have a pet line, DO NOT get one. Even a show line would be happier doing Igp, Ipo, Dock diving, ect. than sitting on a couch all day.

I do not know to what kind of activity your parents forced you, but trust me - this dog enjoy this part of training the most and he is happy to doing it.

My CZ GSD goes crazy when we get a few blocks from the training ground and she can smell it. These animals are bred to work, not cuddle.

This is a working breed...Proper training and intellectually - challenged tasks satisfy them in a way we human being can't imagine. Lying on couch watching tv and doing nothing might sound a good and happy life to you, but definitely nightmares to working breed, might even got them depressed without enough physical activities.
