If anyone is wondering about the "wasteful" motions, in this combat form, all attacks must have a "warning" move, so they warn the enemy, where they are going to attack. It's because this style was developed by nobles and gentlemen, who held fair play in the highest of values, leaving lucky blows out of the fights as much as possible. That is why the combat itself looks choreographed.

"But all that jumping and leaping is an inefficient waste of energy and movement..." Yes. That's why the term 'martial-arts' contains the word 'art'. Now imagine them focusing that energy into just hitting you. At the end of the day, they have trained their bodies to move in ways many fighters ignore. Just because they're fighting for sport here doesn't mean they don't know how to deliver an efficient beatdown if they need to. There is still a merit and use to their skill.

Hi ! Although there is an element of « showing of » in all the jumping and leaping (the video is meant to memorable after all) it is also quite useful for dodging, tactical moves and building momentum (of which you need a lot when trying to hit someone with a weapon as light as a cane). Just like the broad movements, spinning, etc… it’s both esthetic and efficient.

There is one benefit - the style is highly defensive, you provide cover with the cane most of the time.

Don't really matter because in a real fight, not many people will be able to stand against a good fighter of this style no matter how much flowing and jumping happens. This happens very fast in a real combat situation.

Trop peu de personnes le pratiquent dans le monde pour que ce soit représenté aux JO. C'est déjà pas facile de trouver un club de savate qui enseigne la canne en France. Mais oui ce serait plaisant à voir, comme des compétitions de Sepak Takraw ou de Kabaddi

nah this is way too cool to be real, the first part was cool. the staff clip was also surprisingly cool even if it was coreograåhed or whateever, the third part with dual-canes was amazing. listening to battle of the heroes atm btw.

Bonjour a tout. Excusez mon français s'il vous plait, il n'est pas mon langue native. Je voudrais savoir si la canne de combat est un methode valide pour utiliser le baton telescopique. Je comprendre bien que les batons telescopiques sont plus courtes mais plus lourdes, et je crois que la dynamique de ses utilisation peut etre different. Les batons telescopique sont plus facile de porter toujours, je suis 28 ans et c'est ne pas comun porter un canne at mon age, hehe. Je practice Savate mais j'ai petite experience avec la canne de combat. Merci beaucoup de votre aide :) César

Maybe, but if this is what your practice all the time, your stamina grows respectively, so the jumps and hops that seem like way to lose breath to you come effortlessly to a regular practitioner. Capoeira also seems like a waste of energy until you get into it.

In Star Wars, they actualy tried a wide variety of blade materials for their saber props. (Including, I think, aluminum rods.) I'm pretty sure they eventually settled for fiberglass or carbon fiber, not sure which one.

Pour avoir pratiqué le bâton de combat ( je le pratique toujours d'ailleurs ), je peux te dire que ce sont juste des combinaisons à apprendre et à appliquer en fonction de la situation, un peu comme le rubik's cube en fait.

Probably because they're effectively using the same weapons as the actors in Star Wars. Here they use wooden sticks, in Star Wars the actors wield plastic sticks. Either way, it's a lightweight weapon that allows for a great deal of speed and movement. Of course, the CHARACTERS in Star Wars are supposed to have even faster weapons, as they don't even have to deal with the weight of the plastic.

except in the first three movies (the originals) where its was imagined that lightsabers were very heavy because of their immense energy. consequently the fighting style was based on samurai holding a katana, only until the more recent installments did the lightsabers get lighter and more...twirly.

M'sieur flo Moins pratique et surtout illégal de nos jours . Le port de canne épée ou canne lesté en pleine rue est classé comme le port d'une arme de 6ème catégorie et est sévèrement réprimer . Mais la canne épée mélange l'escrime et la savate . les parapluie actuels ne sont pas tailler pour le combat , voir les anciens modèles

it was created in the 15th century. Noble people were'nt allowed to bring their swords in the king's castle so they used their canne instead . Many countries, many places, many sticks.
