Thanks Cheryl. Have you noticed the new rings are showing major erosion after pressure canning? I bought a few packs this year to replace really old ones and after first pressure canning they look awful like the metal is so cheap. I do have hard water and always add vinegar to prevent glass from being cloudy. Anyway thanks again.

Do they still make the glass lids for mason jars? Or can you still buy glass lids for mason jars lol?

They do not make glass lids for mason jars anymore. You would have to buy the antique glass lids. I found them on Esty, E-Bay and Antique Stores.

If you use Weck small rubbers which are thicker than tattler rubbers, they are also larger in outside diameter enough that there has always been a place to grab a hold of the rubber with a pair of duck bill pliers. At amazon $8.79, doing it this way it is almost impossible to chip the glass. I have over 1000 glass lids and have been using them for over 10 years now. If the lid gets even a tiny chip it will not seal, I have used an EZ Lap Diamond hone, at amazon, to hone down the sealing surface of some lids that had small chips and have gotten them to seal again. In my opinion using a knife is just asking to chip the glass, most glass lids have a narrow raised ring at their sealing surface I always check with my thumb nail before using. That narrow raised ring is what I hone with the EZ Lap. I did not buy Weck rubber a dozen at a time, I bought them in a box of 500 because they were much cheaper that way, their rubbers are thicker and softer than tattler rubbers, I only use regular mouth jars. And yes I have used the rubbers several times. I had several thousand metal lids and resold almost all of them now. The metal lids are coated with plastic either containing BPA or BPS both are very bad at very low concentrations, they make cancer grow like a wild fire. When heated the BPA or BPS gets into the food, who can process food in a canner without heating it. After finding this out I went to tattler lids which after calling tattler I found out the plastic was made from Formaldehyde, yup you guessed it I resold them also. I can not believe how many people buy bottle water, when they could just buy a Berkey water filter and never run out of safe drinking water again no matter what happens. The Berkey comes with 2 filters that are good for 2000 gallons, which means the water only cost pennies per gallon. I thank God I was in the Boy Scouts when I was young and learned their Motto well "BE PREPARED!" CHEERS and I hope I did not ruin someones day

Thank you so much!! Your video appeared in my DuckDuckGo/Google search for the first opener you demonstrated. I’m curious, which opener do you recommend for tattler lids? The same one you use for the glass lids since both have a rubber gasket? Also, I’ve started just writing on my jars with permanent marker instead of using labels, but I think your painters’ tape is freaking genius! A dish scrubber and soap takes off the permanent marker, but that painter tape looks so much easier!!

I would use the glass lid opener for the tattler lids. Sometimes we write on the lids if we are using tin lids, otherwise, painters tape works great, comes off with no mess.
