This is the happiest song I know. I have it on good authority that Cannonball was a happy man. My guess is that the tune expresses the joy of a child over a new toy.

This one of my favourite pieces of jazz. I first heard it by the Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) on TV in 1986. It was well balanced and restrained with vibraphone, piano and alto saxophone solos. The ensemble came in and out around the soloists beautifully.

@@bluelotusnefertoum2144 I think it's just done by forcing air, it's just C, A, E...then D, all descending, but I'm not exactly sure about this Omnibook's accuracy, I've already spotted a few times where it gets the note wrong by a half step...anyway!

@@xxczerxx omnibook?? Idk Cannonball is my favorite saxophonist I just adore this tune. So glad with jazz the wrong notes can be played. Yet, be a master piece.

@@bluelotusnefertoum2144 Yeah it's just a big book with all his songs in it! That's true, although I think Cannonball actually refrained from picking 'wrong' (chromatic let's say) notes in this song, it's still one of the most melodic bebop tunes I've ever heard!
