Absolutly fabulous. Simple, cheap, efficient, easily portable, unsinkable. Two more smaller PVC tubes bent in semi-circle from front to back on each tube with a small tarpollin on top for a roof. Come rain or come shine by far the best kayak I`ve ever seen.

I have thin wall 8" pvc pipe ordered for this same project, but I am adding a 55 gallon olive/pickle barrel to the back to add more flotation ability and to house my cargo and my dog when I am paddling the craft. Your video has helped give me some great ideas to try out with my own version of this mini catamaran of sorts. I wish I could obtain 10" thin wall pvc pipe, but the cost goes up dramatically for anything larger than the 8" diameter tubes. Thanks for the "how to" instructions.

The length of each tube could likely be shortened and sill be as effective. Small outriggers could add a bit more to stability and they can easily be made from the pvc pipe or even large water bottles or soda bottles. I am really glad that I stumbled across this video as it gives me some ideas to play with. I have an RC airplane with floats on it. I fly it at a local pond, but if the plane takes a nose dive or if the batteries fail on it, then I have to wade out and retrieve the plane. I was looking at pontoon craft to see if that may be a cheap or viable way to easily row out into the pond to save or retrieve the air plane. I wanted something light weight or easy to assemble on site to use and for one man and possibly my dog. This may well fit the bill in that regard. I am thinking that 4-6' PVC floats would work as well. Your video gives me lots of ideas to work with and my local Habitat for Humanity restore has lots of cheap materials to make the cost affordable for such a craft. This may well be my next DIY project. Thanks for the video. Nice.

It is a good starting point for what I'm thinking of! 25 kilograms? That's nice, now you just need to make it even better by adding jackodur ploystyrene as wings, and rods to support it and a 15 bhp motor. Use the ground effect, I'm planning to do just that in order to travel wherever I want in the shortest possible time ;)

it is a great job. if you put an elbos to the rear ends too you will improove the speed because the water at the straight ends make a loop creating a suction that pull you back..

This is for mikebe41. I advise you not to use that expanding foam. I have a catamaran style kayak I bought used. The guy that owned it used that stuff. What a mess and it adds weight to the boat as well!! If the pipes are sealed there's no reason for the foam and foam does NOT give the boat more flotation. The foam only displaces water so nothing will fill with water. Good luck if you build one.

You can find them in any plumbing store , you have to make a research in your area and all the pipes with this diameter are 3 meters long . Each pipe cost me about 20 euros and 10 euros for each elbow thats why I have total cost with other materials 80 euros, of course all these are for my country - Greece - I don't know for your area .

I am already fishing with this one , its perfect for one person and its funny to have water above you and see everything clear - you will just need to add something to hold your fishing rod like I already have done , its easy. As for sailing boat .you are right , if you add a sailing rig and a rudder the stability is perfect.

I believe there are two ways , you can use expanding foam for 20 or 30cm into pipe then cut it straight and paint it or , what I did , give shape to a see plywood fit tight into the end of pipe (use and silicon) and I also screw it. Its better solution if you want to use water deck filer like I do but so far I don't have any leaks

The pipes above 20 cm diameter are thicker and too heavy around 25 kg each. You will need two pipes 30cm or 40cm .x 300 cm , total canoe weigh around 50 to 60kg Above 100 kg (230pounds = 104kg) I recommend third pipe in the middle , only 10 kg heavier from mine - it's up to you

sorry I can't understand most of what you are asking is something about the seat I believe . I screw the two aluminum pipes with the square curve PVC (see photo) and then I glue them with PVC glue to main tubes - floats , I hold the seat to the aluminum pipes with strong tie wraps or elase if you have different type of seat you can screw it if you don't trust the tie wraps. I hope that helps you
@jlogres1967
@jlogres1967 11 жыл бұрын
By grade you mean thickness ? The 200mm D pipe is the thinner about 4-5mm and I choose it because it's the lighter 10 kg the 3 meters pipe, above 200 D is thicker and very heavy. To seal of the elbow it's easy with pvc glue I didn't cut the head of elbow , the pipe get inside the elbow , from the other side I make a round wood cover and screw it and sealed it inside the elbow.

if you weigh around 200-lbs., you could replace yourself with a 200-lbs. electric motor system between these pontoons and have this raft tow you with ropes, while you sit in a 2nd pontoon-boat set-up or motor-less 'mini-submarine'?.

@jadekayak01
@jadekayak01 10 жыл бұрын
I understand this your dilema.I am a plastic welder and mostly deal with 3 types of plastic-polypropelene,polyetheylene and PVC. PVC is a very brittle type of plastic and cannot take knocks as well as others but better than some(acrylic for example) Your bows undergo a steady and constant pressure and release that pressure in a constrained fashion.The bow is also designed for the pvc pipe.I have seen the vids and made one myself.They are not as powerfull as wooden of fibreglass bows I have made but are heaps cheapr to build and just as much fun to use

I believe you can find anything you want from my blue print ,PVC size 20cm x 300cm (D-200), with 2 pipes it can hold about 100kg (see my cylinder volume type), above 100kg maybe you can use a third pipe in the middle each pipe weighs about 10 kg, so with 3 pipes around 35kg total weigh
@punchdrunkatheist
@punchdrunkatheist 7 жыл бұрын
Does this make sense if you don't already have the pipe or can scavenge it? 20cm pvc is about 200.00 for the right length to make two pontoons here, and weighs 23kg. That's the cost of a brand new kayak and the weight of about three.

Use the tube volume type - you will see that for 2 persons (170kg) you will need at least 2 PVC pipes 300mm diameter in 3 meters . they can hold 400kg so around 200kg for half way into water but they are heavier than 200mm diameter PVC pipes

Hi, very nice, i have olso a project like this in mind but i want to make one for 2 persons and to put a small electric motor . What do you think will stand the 200 mm pipes at 3 m long for 140 kg.

Hi, if you'll see cylinder volume type there is no way to hold two average people (160kg) with motor and batteries Two solutions - use two 200mm pipes together for each side , total 4 or use 300mm pipes , at 3 meters can hold 210kg each Both ways it will be heavier , around 50 to 60 kg and you will need at least two persons to carry it but it will hold you

jlogres1967 Thx, I was thinking that those two pipes will not support the weight, but what if i will use 3 pipes 200 mm at 3m with one in the midle ... i think i will have olso better stabitity ...

Adrian Cocis use volume type- if it gives you around 100kg for each pipe 200mm) you have to consider that its 50kg becouse you need the pipe half way into sea water for speed and effort so 3 pipes (150Kg) they are not enough
