Not long enough, fantastic Ray, last canoed the trip you've shown in 91' Harry Wheelan and I, fog came in during the last couple of hours and Harry took advantage by asking a fisherman on the rocks if we had reached Wales in a thick Limerick accent. Once in a canoe, once by Sea kayak and once by sail.

Many thanks! In sea kayak I would have set out an hour later to allow Penrhyn Mawr to start running. Then play time in the race. On a day like that it is great in sea kayak but to be honest it would have been alright in canoe but we were being cautious: I was taking into account sea temperature if there was an incident. Also drysuits incase of a problem. As ever thanks and thanks for the coffees. Most appreciated.

Awesome video Ray. I'd love to do a trip like that some day, but know next to nothing about ocean paddling. I'll have to find a good guide. ;)
@RayGoodwinCanoe
@RayGoodwinCanoe 3 жыл бұрын
I will have a think and see if I know any decent guides. 😂 Seriously though it a trip so conditional on condition for canoe it is a rare event: I have done it in canoe with a client but we were up on Anglesey in exceptionally calm conditions, the client was very capable and we grabbed the opportunity. Done it lots in sea kayak and been out there is big conditions. Quite a place then.
@philschaefer4651
@philschaefer4651 3 жыл бұрын
@@RayGoodwinCanoe I was thinking a little closer to home. Maybe Seward or Valdez Alaska. There's an outfit in Seward that gives lessons and tours in sea kayaks. I figure that'd be a good place to start. Seward is very sheltered, the biggest hazard is the tour boat wakes.

@@RayGoodwinCanoe It's a pretty area, I've gone fishing there several times. Granted it's not much closer to home. 10 hour drive to Seward, vs a 10 hour flight to UK.

Awesome video Ray! Do you have to treat your paddle canoe or other gear afterwards for having been in contact with salt water?
@RayGoodwinCanoe
@RayGoodwinCanoe 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you do. Best to wash down in fresh water and then re oil. Salt is very damaging. I should really do the wood parts of the canoe as well but rarely get around to that. Yep it was a great trip.

New sub here. Love your videos Ray! What gopro mount are you using? Love the pov!
@RayGoodwinCanoe
@RayGoodwinCanoe 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! I use the Railblaza Camera Boom 600 with their Star-Port mounts fixed to bow and stern plates of the canoe. I run para cord directly from the GoPro to the canoe in case the boom joints come loose or it all breaks in a capsize: I would regard the cord connection as critical so as not to lose the expensive GoPro (it has come lose on two occasions due to running through branches overhanging the water). www.railblaza.co.uk/electronics/cameras/railblaza-r-lock-camera-boom-600.html
