Thank you! Your Video is the most usefull comparison between mk2-3 i found. So the 1Dx m3 is sharper, faster, more focus points, meta-data oberride and silance shutter is great. I have the canon R6 and the 1Dx m2 and the quality difference is huge. I think the 1Dx is about 20% sharper. How much „better“ is the image quality between 1DX m2 and m3 ? Maybe 10%? Thank you for your great content

Well Done Vanessa. I’ve been thinking about getting this camera mainly for events. But one thing that worries me is that canon confirmed stopping their EF lenses. What tells me that in the next model we could see an RF version of the 1DX MIV.
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s an interesting thought, though I believe the physics of the rf lenses make it impossible to work with a mirrored camera.
@paulwalsh40584 жыл бұрын
Canon have NOT said they are stopping EF lenses!!! It was mis-reported. They said that they are focusing their lense developement on the RF mount, but are still developing EF mount lenses.
@longliveclassicmusic4 жыл бұрын
Paul Walsh Actually, they said they're focused on RF unless the market demands more EF… So they DO have intention to slow down or halt EF lenses, but they'll come out with more IF THE MARKET DEMANDS IT.
@GastonShutters4 жыл бұрын
Paul Walsh they did say that they are not planning to continue the EF production as the RF is the main focus. Unless market demands it. But once they have cover all basics with the RF they most likely kill future releases with EF Mount. It makes sense for canon but not to some of us that have many of them EF lenses.

Maybe, if your profession is photography. I know a professional photographer who is using the same equipment he bought 12 years ago. Its never the equipment but how creative the photographer is. One professional photographer traveled cross country by car and all of the photos he shot was from his smart phone. Those images were incredible. That experience wasn't going to make him sell his pro equipment but it make him rethink the idea of upgrading every time a new camera or lens hits the market. Additionally, he discovered the great advances in camera technology phone makers are including in their products. He now uses his smart phone in casual situations where he would normally use a DSLR. Naturally for assignments he's going to use pro equipment.
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely. I always say people are masters of their tools not the other way around. However, when a tool has capabilities that allow you to be more creative because you’re not worrying about dealing with high ISO’s or, in the case with this camera especially, The insane advancement in the auto focus system, that’s a serious advantage. Eliminating creative thought barriers by minimizing equipment considerations frees up your mind to be a better photographer in a lot of ways

I Definitely didn’t notice a sharper difference between either of them, was likely just the processing. Only reason I say the 1dxiii is sharper is because it’s more likely to nail focus with the AF tech in it 😊

Great video review, Vanessa. An interesting use for a 1DXMIII. It's nice to see the new features, but $6500 is a lot to spend on a wedding camera, especially one with only 20mpx. A Sony A9 is $4000 less and has 20fps, silent shooting, eye autofocus, and a flip screen. Plus it is a lot lighter. For a thousand more I can buy a Sony A7R4 with 61mpx. However, if you do a lot of weddings the 1DX is a solid workhorse and Canon has a lot of lenses available. For me, I find that the newer mirrorless cameras are a lot easier to use for wedding style portraiture. Their lighter weight, eye autofocus, and flip screen saves my back and lets me get amazing shots without contortion. Do I need a new camera? Not really, but it's always nice to get a new lens. Unfortunately, the 1DXMIII will not be able to use the new Canon R lenses like the spectacular 85mm F1.2. It will be interesting to see what the Canon R5 brings to the table.

I own two Canon 5DIII's and feel the need to upgrade. I'm torn between a second hand 1DX II and a new Eos R6. What would you recommend ? I shoot nearly everything apart from sports : Concerts, weddings, indoor dogshows but also landscapes, old buildings, nature, macrophotography ... I don't use my canon 5DIII's above Iso 2000 or 3200 unless I need to. In my opinion they are no good at high iso. And they only take 5 pics/sec and have a slow autofocus. Apart from that, I love them

I think the 1dx mk iii is a great camera if I didn't have one but also the review is a bit biased to promoting the newer camera. My 1Dx mk2 in 2022 is doing great! The 4k 60p is gorgeous and also the 1080p 120fps for closeups is second to none as "feeling goes" becase although not nrearly as sharp as the 4k it gives that cinematic feel that is hard to replicate and it looks veeeeery natural, more than anything I have seen on my A7s III 4k 120fps. It's just magic what the 1dx mk2 can do.

This is beyond my scope. I'm really enjoying the "beginner" videos and I'm using a 7D right now. MY dilemma is stepping up to a full-frame as a hobbyist. Do I buy a 6D or find a good deal on a used 5D III or IV. Or do I punt, save a bit more money, and go with an R series? Any of those will be better than the 7D I'm using now. I'm thinking baby steps, and as I grow and need more camera to keep stepping up.
@nicholasjones35542 жыл бұрын
I see nobody has replied to your comment, so I'll offer an anecdote: my experience in the transition to full-frame was rather underwhelming. The industry would have you think full-frame cameras offer a revelatory shooting experience, but I still enjoy my Canon 70D just as much as my full-frame camera. I'm happy to own a full-frame camera, but I can't say I feel initiated into any exclusive group. I have similar feelings towards the mirrorless vs. DSLR debate. DSLR's are still just great fun to shoot with. It's also worth noting that your 7D is not at all a beginner camera. It's a very capable tool, and I'd bet you're making some great photos with it.

I agree, the R5 is going to have almost double the megapixels as the new Mark III. I doubt it will have anywhere near the battery life. Knowing Canon, it wouldn't surprise me if the cannibalize the 1Dx Mark III for the new "mainstream" R5. The 5D II and 5D IV were Canon's highest sales, so it would make sense for them to go big with the R5 to secure market share.

I don't know I would be hesitant. I upgraded from the 7D MK II and my Canon 5D MK IV is a lemon. The camera has excessive battery drain. I took about 49 photos and the battery was around 52% (for every ten photos I take I lose about ten percent of the battery) I used the same batteries on my 7D MK II and there was no issue at all (242 and the battery had 70% left) I took the camera in as it is still under warranty. they kept it for a week and told me it was repaired. I took the camera out yesterday and it was the same thing 49 photos and the battery was drained to 62%. They are now saying that all three of my lenses, SD, and Flash Cards, and three batteries need to be left off and tested even though they work fine on the 7D MII. I told them that was not possible so they said they will not replace the camera. Clearly they can't find the power problem so they are trying to blame the problem elsewhere. I dont know who can afford to replace all their batteries and lenses so the camera will work properly. Although Canon products are generally outstanding beware they will not back a defective product. Edit
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
that sounds pretty strange but they're right, they need to test with all of those things to see where the problem is. Kind of hard to figure it out without those things. It's not about those things working on the 7D, it's about how they're communicating with the 5div. without testing that they won't be able to tell.

I really want a 1DX3, but that 20 MP, in 2020, is a show stopper for me. If that were like 45 MP, at say 12 FPS in the VF, then I’d be having a really hard time. And for me, it is not even about need, it’s about if I want to spring for it or not. Life is short so you have got to have gear that helps you get the image while enjoying it too. I 1Dx3 can definitely help me get images I could not get otherwise, but I’d be fine if I didn’t get those particular images, I think.

"Do You REALLY Need to Upgrade your Camera?" Well, the answer is No! All cameras made in the last 4 years are capable of outstanding images, irregardless of sensor size. FPS=You know, that is something that I CONSTANTLY have to tell my crew: Do not use burst mode! We sell onsite and have no time to edit or delete photos before the teams come up to our view laptops. They don't want to scroll thru frames on a movie. I guess this is because I went to school back in the days of film, but I try to get the image in one shot. I don't see why everyone is using burst mode. I mean, if I was shooting for a newspaper, I wouldn't want to go thru 1000+ photos to find 2 or 3 to publish! What I want out of a camera is a fast and accurate auto focus, good low noise in high ISO, and controls that are intuitive. I personally don't need video, or most of the bells and whistles that come with modern cameras. I have done a few weddings, and even there, I don't think most of the things cameras tout are really germane. I mean resolution-my clients aren't printing billboards, so a reasonable amount of megapixels would be fine. FPS-I mean, yes, you want to shoot the kiss, and so forth, but I don't think anyone needs 20FPS to do that!

These 2 Canon Models have virtually ' unnoticeable ' differences in 'stills' image quality. The examples Vanessa show are with different lenses, different focal lengths, different lenses settings so nothing is comparable ! a ' pointless review ' just don't get it ... if your going to compare models use the exact same lens etc., and side by side comparisons. In the real World you wont't be able to see-any-difference, just you will hear one and not the other in a client-room-environment. I know: because I have both Models!

@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
Bc most of the 1dxiii shots are sooc and the others are edited. Just gotta look past the color tint one way or another and look at the actual image quality.
@schumif1champ4 жыл бұрын
Vanessa Joy You did a good job but hard to compare image quality on KZbin a lot of the 1dxii shots looked better. I’m sure if you had the actual files side by side it would be a different story.
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
schumif1champ it is difficult but this wasn’t a field test it was practical use test, which is what I do here. :) I’m sure you’ll find some KZbinrs out there who put the two cameras side-by-side, which the same lenses and take the same shots with the same settings, I’m not them. I shoot real jobs that don’t allow time for such things. Plus I had the camera so early that I couldn’t even process the files the same way so there was no point in trying that anyway. If I ever do field test comparisons I’ll label them that was so you can find them. I DEFINITELY think they’re valuable.

I am on the Canon 1DX Mark II and primarily for Wildlife. And no, I won't upgrade. I am not into video, so I don't really need the new video functions. And I also don's use Liv View for my work. So then just the DLSR functions are left and there is not much improvement over the 1DX Mark II. Yes, the buffer is nice. But already the buffer of the 1DX Mark II is more than enough for me, it was never a limiter for my work. And boring 20MP again. Not even the technology of the sensor has been improved, this just old CMOS tech from 5 years ago. No stacking. No BSI. Basically a carry over from 1DX Mark II. So no. I won't get the 1DX Mark III. I will wait on the mirrorless version of the 1DX, then maybe I add this tool.
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
But have you tried the new focusing system? That’s the kicker for me... though if you’re thinking of going mirrorless then I imagine you’ll see it or something like it eventually
@Stefan1968ful4 жыл бұрын
@@VanessaJoy Yes, Autofocus is improved what is good, no doubt. But for my Wildlife work I would appreciate seeing (in Autofocus) something similar what you can get with the Sony A9 and this is a Lock-On function. This is for Wildlife simply absolutely amazing. You lock the target and the Autofocus follows it with stunning accuracy. I hope something like this or similar is coming with the rumored professions version of the Canon EOS R. And there is one thing with DSLR's wich bothers really especially when you work wit super long telephoto lenses (600mm 4.0 and beyond) and that is the AF Microadjustment. What a hell, any small deviation from the optimal calibration setting of lens and camera is magnified due to the long focal length resulting into blurs. It takes you a long time to get lens and camera calibrated. Calibration software can help but it is still a pain and you know, every time the image is not 100% sharp you have the bad feeling the calibrations sucks a bit. With a mirrorless camera this isn't any issue as you do the focusing directly on the sensor. So that's why I am eager to see the upcoming professional mirrorless version of the 1DX Mark III from Canon. For me the overall functions of the 1DX Mark III is giving me an outlook on what is coming from Canon with their professional mirrorless camera.
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that sounds like what happens with the focus system in this camera. It’ll follow the subject - which is AMAZING For me with weddings since I like my couples moving around a lot. All good advances!
@Stefan1968ful4 жыл бұрын
@@VanessaJoy Well, this I need to see if with OVF. With Live View I know they have a kind of this function but in Wildlife you usually don't use Live View as this hardly make sense together with a 600mm 4.0 Prime :) So 95% of my shots are with the OVF. And here such functions does not exist as far I could see.

I upgraded from 5D3 to 1DX2 in 2016 then I regreted cause the image quality not as what I expected. Then in 2017, I bought Fujifilm GFX50S. When I go wildlife shooting, IDX2 does the job, when I go landscaping or portrait GFX get well done. There is no reason to upgrade to 1DX3 now, since both current systems are quite bulky, i am thinking of add 1 new system to my camera family - Leica M10R.🥳

The Canon 1dx mk3 uses two CF cards instead of the 1 CF and 1 CFast 2.0 cards which is much faster so I don't see how the buffer on the mk3 doesn't fill up quicker when I use my 16 fps. Personally I'll keep sticking with my 1DX MK II and 5DSR rather than blow thousands more on a MK III Canon is already planning to abandon as far as support goes. In my book the MK III is the latest and greatest dodo due to Canon's infatuation with mirrorless.
