Yes to the r6 video. I’m thinking of upgrading from the r.

A definite yes to your thoughts on the EOS R6. I have the RF version of the 50mm F1.8 it is a nice all around lens. I think it is a bit better than the EF version which I traded in to avoid the clunkiness of the adapter. The EF 50mm f1.4 is also a good lens on the R as well. Also there is Leica M mount to RF adapter available. My copy is quite tight on the mount but it does work. You my want to investigate it and use it on some of your lens reviews. The added megapixels should help. All the best - Rich Ball

The 50mm f/1.8 for ANY camera is an important lens. Not just Canon.

great vid! I've been using the RF version of this lens on my R6 as my main lens over the RF 1.2 recently. The weight difference for a 10 hour day makes a HUGE difference and the difference in IQ (on the RF version at least) is negligible unless you're really pixel peeping.

I'm having this fantastic lens for so many years, I already had it on my Canon T80 in 1987 and now the last version on my EOS 250D. Besides the sharpness, the bokeh and so on, one thing must be noted that nobody at this moment talked about: the feeling of depth. For example, when you focus on a middle of a field, of a scene, both the foreground and the background will be out of focus, augmenting the feeling of depth, of relief, of reality. I never observed that with any of the lenses I have. But nobody talks of that.

Actually yes Benj I would like a video about your experience with the R6. Especially about video usage. Dare I say I am thinking about getting that camera too. >_< It's just too darn expensive while I am still lusting over Leica glass and trying to regain a sense of priorities.

Looking forward to learning with this lens and my T7. Just found a shop that traded my 75-300mm canon kit lens for the ef 50mm 1.8 stm.

Idk about y’all I remember getting that nifty fifty for my canon Dslr a while back and within the 1st few months the autofocus just became terrible, so bad that I just resorted to manual focusing with it only.

I think ultimately if ya put this on 2.8 or higher for street photography it’s a decently sharp lens and once ya process photos no one can tell

The EF 50mm f1.8 II is notoriously fragile. That's probably what he had (it was the standard Canon 50mm f1.8 for a couple decades). I've seen them literally fall apart in peoples hands and the plastic mount would break if you looked at it wrong. The version 1 and the STM are both much more robust.
@TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@adam_mawz_maas i owned two canon lenses without metal mount for a few years and they never looked like a toddler could rip them out of the bayonet. However, it's good to know that some lenses are more fragile than others. 😀

Hi: While I agree with you here, I will say that most photographers should just stick to taking as many photos with what they have, learn how to take a good photo then maybe think about a different lens. So much consumption and not enough production. I know the trap too well. Shooting > Buying. --Michael

Have you played with the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 VC? Nikon G 50mm lenses are very very bleh, the Tamron is basically a $200-250 used lens that is small, compact, has VC, and a shockingly short MFD. Some might call it a character lens or rant on its rendering. I am not prone to that way of describing lenses-but I will say that it is an inexpensive lens that punches above its weight and it has flaws that are both forgivable and tend to add something to the resulting image. Very peculiar, slow to focus, but somehow still a lens I gravitate toward.

Canon never made a great 50 mm prime EF lens - the 50/1.4 suffered often AF issues, the 50/1.2 L has a beautiful bokeh but is very unsharp wide open in the center. The 50/1.8 is nothing special about IMO - only it is inexpensive as you said correctly. I have used all these versions. All was easily beaten by the Sigma 50/1.4 EF lens. Actually the best Canon 50 mm prime lens was the 50/1.4 FD manual focus lens.
