if you are doing a photo shoot like this, is it just for your and model's portfolio? if so, do you - as a photographer - pay to make-up artist and model? are you doing sometimes TFP photo shoots?
@ZedExGaming6 жыл бұрын
when I've done photoshoots with models for our portfolios I either work tfp or they pay me
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
Usually the model will pay the photographer to get updated or specific photos they might need for their book! The only time I can think of a photographer paying a model is if you want to specifically take photos of someone who is already working full time and doesn't need "updated" photos for their book as they already get new photos to share with the jobs they do :)
@pandayamitray16 жыл бұрын
Model is too getting exposure through her. Pun intended 😊
@klararotenmayer71865 жыл бұрын
I'm amateur photographer and I'm pretty poor myself for paying any models so i just work with girls that arent models but like posing and are pretty. They get cool photos and i get a good model. Ofc if someone wants book photos they pay me.

@blackentrepreneur2446 жыл бұрын
seacow2001 just get a 1.8 it’s not all about the lenses. It’s also the photographers skill level and creativity. I shoot with a Canon T6 and 50 1.8 and take great shots 🤷🏾♂️
@seacow20016 жыл бұрын
@@blackentrepreneur244 I definitely agree and have the 1.8 and 5d ii. But u know some times we lust after gears. Especially those with red rings lol.
@harvseguilos6 жыл бұрын
you're not gonna use 1.2 that much anyways so you're fine with 1.8
@markharris57715 жыл бұрын
BlackEntrepreneur24 Totally agree. I’m doing an analogue 365 project and I’m only allowed to use the 50mm f1.8 on an EOS 2000nf using TMax 400. My second favourite lens after my Sigma 18-35 f1.8 is my Jupiter 50mm f2. Cameras and lenses are tools, like a painter's brushes are. The idea is to know you lenses and what they will do.

Great video Julia. Quick question, on a shoot like this how many photos do you end up with and how many final images do you choose. Do you give the model the option to choose the one that they like or do you just give her the ones you think is your best work regardless of wether the models like the photo or not? xx
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I usually get some feedback on the day when showing the photos to my team on what they liked and what they want for their portfolio then I just select a mixture of photos :) I usually edit about 20 photos from a shoot which to other photographers is a lot haha but I find that's enough for me to select a good variety of photos from what we shot on the day!

My favorites were the images around the tree. Beautiful model! Do your models just know to change poses after every shutter sound? How would you instruct someone that's not a model to do that (as in how do they know how much or little to move?)?
@SONYAdicto6 жыл бұрын
Michelle Cahal I wonder the exact same thing
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Usually models will already know to move around every time I press the shutter, but if they don't I just ask them to :) The same goes for if they're moving too little or too much, it just comes down to communication and letting them know what you're after!
@ricdynasty5 жыл бұрын
Hi Julia. I really enjoy your content, so thank you for taking the time to post these videos. Is there a reason why you don't shoot wide open on the 50mm f1.2 ?
@RavenfluxASMR5 жыл бұрын
Lenses are not at their sharpest when they are wide open. Usually theyre sharpest 2 to 3 stops from their widest. So a f1.2 is sharpest between f2-f4 and an f2 is sharpest between f2.8-f5.6

Its obviously nice to have soft light and bokeh, but this is easy and less challenging but when you can get more direct light to work for you with a beautiful background, the image starts to talk to you more with contrast, depth and a stronger mood. Good job 😶

Thanks for this video, Julia, and emphasizing the message that one can still get great photos from a seemingly bland location. And you’re very smart to shoot at f2 with this lens. The 50 1.2 imho is very soft wide open, at least at wider apertures.
@Sunnypanthers6 жыл бұрын
Not very soft, it is enough sharp to shoot wide open and gives very beautiful picture

Another amazing video Julia…and Dan ;-) ! I'm just curious, but why do you like to shoot at f2?
@milankollar47806 жыл бұрын
Joseph Pancho its because the canon 50mm f1.2 is really soft at 1.2 and at f2 its fine. I have the canon 50mm f1.2 so I know how it is.
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I normally like to shoot at 1.2, but for this shoot I wanted extra crisp photos haha so I decided to shoot at 2 :) I thought the slight extra sharpness would really suite the lighting and location we were working with.

@ocgirltw6 жыл бұрын
hi, i'm curious, how do you keep the model in the right exposure with backlit light?
@juliatrotti6 жыл бұрын
I usually meter for the model's face first, then underexpose by about a stop or 2 to get the lighting overall even!
