I think the price difference is proportional to the difference in image quality. The Canon lens is more expensive, but much sharper. + You only once have to buy a lens, if you can take care of it.

Hey, not hating on the Yongnuo, the images are pretty much the same but i dropped the Yongnuo once and it broke. I got the Canon as a replacement. Honest assessment? If you can guarantee not to drop it, go for the Yong.

In your comparison, the canon lens is blurry in the corner compared to the yongnuo, it seems significant difference. I would go for the trusted brand, i.e Canon.

I've got both and I prefer the Canon for being smaller and a better construction quality, but the Yongnuo is pretty amazing as well for its price, is not too noisy and focus fast.

Mostly focused on Picture at this point and the Yongnuo seems almost as good of a quality as the canon for way less money. Autofocus might not be as good but that depends on the camera also. What really puts a point for the canon is the quality build... the Yongnuo lens seems like it can't hold on any beat up whatsoever, the 1st version had even plastic connection to the body. For what i can see the Yongnuo will take pictures about as sharp and good (not really noiceable the gap) but it will last a lot less than the Canon...

I own both. Before I got the Canon STM, I used the Yongnuo for nighttime streetphotography at f:2. The Yongnuo condistently had A LOT more trouble focussing in low light, both in speed and accuracy on all my bodies (550D, 50D and even the 7D). I now use the 24mm 'pancake' f2.8 more. Wide open it is very sharp, and handheld at 1/10s it is easier to hold steady than a 50mm at 1/20s for the same exposure without pushing the ISO. You do need to get a lot closer for portaits, though. Always a trade-off...

Does anyone else notice that the Yongnuo is a bit wider than Canon? Also, Yongnuo is brighter wide open, which leads to believing that it has wider aperture. Like, It's got F1.8, while Canon's got something like F1.87-f1.9 actual, marketed as f1.8

As someone who shot at least 15 50mm lenses, the canon looks a lot better wide open and close to it. That said, It doesnt look 100% better. For the kind of money yongnuos are going for its a no brainer.

Funny thing though. I have the Sigma 50 1.4 Art and Im really beginning to think that it might be too sharp for the type of photography I do. Its sharp to the point that some of the photos I take look fake.

i have another question which one is better to have 50mm 1.8 or the 50mm 1.4 or do i buy the both of them or i only need one help me out cause they're cheap. my next door neighbor have a camera bag with 10 lens in it and he said he spend over 25,000 dollars and i was holding my head i think i only need 4 lens and call it a day. i can buy an expensive lens and don't know how to use it then i'm screwed and i don't waste money like that. here's what people are telling me they said i need a 24-70 f2.8 17-50 f2.8 and 50mm 1.8 and 18-35 f1.8 cause i already have a zoom lens. remember now my camera doesn't have video so i will get another camera that can shoot video and i will have lenses already.

Yongnuo is Much better Optic than Canon Mk 1 or 2 itself, so that's why no one will compare with other old series than STM, why would you compare Bad Mk2 Canon lens with STM and Yongnuo if the Yongnuo is still better than Mk1 or 2 Canon self?

I think the canon is sharper until f/4 where they are pretty much the same. For the price its a hard decision. In Germany the Youngnou costs 70€ vs the canon at 120€. I really don`t know which to choose. Can somebody pls give me some advice? Im a beginner and massiv cheapskate but pixel peeper at the same time...

Canon is sharp and has more contrast and MTF. (see 8:27). Any firmware upgrade risks that the YN lens will no longer be recognized on your camera. YN pays no royalty to Canon, it's just a low cost pirated brand.

Yongnuo is sharper but misses focus alot... the first one I had didn't even focus in live view, it got stuck and the motor inside went nuts, the one i have now works great both on my dslr and my mirrorless system

I came across to a 50mm Canon f/1.8 few days ago at 36€ (new!) on Ebay. I was stuck because they price was too damn good to be true, as it costs 100€ on Amazon (best price). Eventually when I decided to buy it, gone... 2 left and 2 sold in no time, with my Canon 50mm on the basket, ready to be bought. I was going to cry... 😂 There's also a new Younguo 50mm f/1.4, but then the price is around 170€ and it seems to struggle a lot with autofocus at f/1.4

paid review. do not works with my 77d and phase autofocus. back-focusing all the time. works ok only with live view. 1 0.3 firmware update from the yongnuo doesn't fix the problem. 1.8 aperture is not usable due to softness.

AF finetune/mirco adjust is needed, which is quite normal. I do the same for all my lenses. They all need some level of adjustment.
