I know this video is 6 yrs old, but i just found it and I wanna tell ya it was awesome. Been using a T5 for the last 8 yrs, off and on learning, seriously learning the last 2 yrs. I finally upgraded to the 5D MK IV and after being used to the T5 this was gonna be a very hard challenge learning all these old yet new to me features. Your 1 hour video did more for me than I could have done for myself in 6-8 months of self learning. For that I am truly thankful.

I'm on a job with a fellow who has a bag full of great Canon EF lenses, and he said the 5D IV is the best DSLR Canon makes. When you talk about the focusing area selection, you describe using the M-fn button to cycle through those different focus area options. However, you don't mention (or maybe I missed it) that there is a new button introduced on the 5D IV that does the same thing. It is the "AF Area Selection Button" that is just below and to the right of the joystick. It's a little easier to find with your thumb than finding the M-fn button with your finger. Either will work, but that new button was added specifically for that purpose (likely due to user feedback requesting an easier way to to AF area selection.)

Awesome video. I am an experienced photog. I am very happy with my 5diii but needed to upgrade my 7D (sensor not good in low light) so one of my sons inherited it, and I just purchased the 5d4. This will be a great addition to our business (we always have two shooters at weddings). Thanks for the quick tune-up.

Hey Tony, you should've mentioned that people don't need to buy a shutter release cable with the 5d4, because when in bulb mode, in the menu system, you can manually type in the length of time.
@jsal9999997 жыл бұрын
You make a good point about leaving the camera in AF Servo all the time, I'm going to give that a try, thanks. I notice you wade through the menus to get to Exposure Compensation. All I do is hit the "Q" button and click the expo/comp in the window. From there I can either shift it up or down or set the bracket. This seems much easier than going on a function hunt. Also are you aware the Canon 24-70mm f4 does have stabilization. It's cheaper as well. I find I can live with the f4 because I'm mostly outside with it anyway.

If your tethering with a computer in a studio environment using strobe lights and using Capture One v.10 software, you will not need an SD or CF card inside the 5D Mk IV. You must remove it otherwise the Mk IV & Capture One will conflict with each other on were to store the image. Capture One stores the image directly into your computer and you will not the SD or CF cards inside the camera. I did not have a problem having the CF card inside my old Canon 5D Mk II with Capture One but this was a problem with the Mk IV.

Two things 1) You don't need to transcode MJPEG to work with in lightroom. What you need to do is format your 128 or 256 cards to exfat. With exfat you can work the same as if it came from any other 4K camera. 2) recommend you go to EOSHD and download their C-LOG programme to your computer then transfer to camera through eos utility. It costs about 10 dollars US.
@TonyAndChelsea8 жыл бұрын
1) You don't *need* to transcode, but even my top-end PC can't playback the untranscoded files. Editing is pretty unbearable unless you transcode first. 2) Good time! I hadn't seen that before.
@clickonmike8 жыл бұрын
You need to insert exfat in your cards. This format is specially formatted for large files. W hen I found out about this and starting editing in light room I found what you could do with colour grading was exceptional. Because of the extra information from the MJPEG. I found out about exfat from magnus547 " 5D MARK IV MJPEG file editing is EASY ". Recommend you take a look.

Hi Tony - great tutorial. Here's my question: on my 5diii once my back button focus was set, I could use the multi-controller in live-view and drag the point to another area of the image and it would adjust the exposure for that new area. In the div it's not adjusting when I drag the controller toggle around the screen. Is there a custom control that allows you to do this with the div?

My Mark IV is currently being posted to me.. With the "Rate" feature.. Can you reverse the rating so the 1st time you press the button it starts at 5* and goes down instead of up? I just can't imagine myself rating anything at 1 star and not just deleting it off the bat.. I am more likely to rate something 4 or 5* in the field.

The shutter speed I use is about 1600 to 2000, ai servo. I've tried all focus points, and single focus point. Well yesterday I took over thirty shots of eagle's that were flying about 150 feet in the air, and not one was sharp. Could it be simply because the eagle's were to far away for that lens, or do I need to change some settings to get better results? I am not a fan of back button focus. Pls help

At around the 27 Minute mark you talk about AF Cases and say "by default they provide three different cases," then you say if any of those three cases don't meet your needs, you can scroll down even further and specifically configure Tracking Sensitivity, Accel./decel. tracking and AF pt auto switching." In point of fact there are 6 default cases, Case 1 through 6, all of which you can tweak those three settings.

I don't care much at all for the proprietary RAW file system on the 5DM4. It's hard finding any programs that open it up unless you use Adobe DNG Converter. You need a newer version of lightroom to open these RAW files, or a newer version of IrfanView.

Hey Tony don't know if you look at comments from videos three years old and I know I'm being a grammar/pronunciation/usage nazi but regarding moving through a set of options it's IT-erate not EYE-terate but really I think it would make more sense if you said "cycle through" the setting options since when you get to the end of the available options it starts back at the first.

What stinks is can't adjust White balance in Kelvin degrees in live view still shooting like on other 5d models. Here all you can adjust is w.b.shift and w.b.bracketing. You must use Q button first. Then use multi controller to cycle through all the other setting controls.

Thanks so much for this video Tony! I really appreciate the breakdown of the settings on the 5D Mark IV. I currently own a 7d Mark II, but as I've switched to portrait photography in the past year, I'm looking to switch over to a full-frame camera so I don't have to back up as much and also the 5D Mark IV is sharper and more detailed. I've already got the 70-200mm f2.8L lens, so when I pair both of those up, I should get some terrific photos. Now I just have to take the plunge to make the purchase.
