The Canon 6D Mark II in 2024 video test! Is the Canon 6D Mark II still good for video?
It's well known that a lot of people despised the 6D Mark II when it was released. However, does this camera pack a mean punch hidden underneath the specs sheet even in 2024? In this video, I test out and review the video capabilities of the Canon 6D Mark II to help you make a decision about this camera.
We begin the video with a short b-roll sequence shot on the 6DM2. This is a basic overview of what the camera is capable of and what you can expect the footage to look like. Honestly, I was very happy with what I was able to achieve with the 6D Mark II.
Next we moved onto some more strenuous tests, beginning with an image quality test. For this test, I stood in front of the camera for a few seconds and then cropped in 100% in post-production to show the edges and the overall sharpness of the image. The sharpness of the image produced isn't completely up to the camera, some of it depends on the lens, but this was still important to include.
Then, we tested out the frame rates of this camera. It can shoot at 24fps, 30fps, and 60fps, so I shot a short clip of me running across the frame. This displayed the quality of each frame rate, along with how much you can slow down your footage.
After that, we tested the accuracy of the autofocus. Again, this one depends on both the camera and the lens attached, but it is still a significant test. The dual pixel autofocus did alright, but there were a few times it lost focus.
Finally, we tested the low light/ISO on the 6D Mark II. Here the camera performed pretty well. I thought the video was useable up until around ISO 3200. After that though, it began to fall apart.

The Canon 6D Mark II is even better in my opinion, but that's more of a professional/intermediate camera. Either way each one of those cameras is pretty great.

Thanks mate, really appreciate the sharing of extensive testing of the 6d ii. Can I ask, did you change anything in the camera focus settings, sensitivity, speed, or picture quality etc? Or did you test with default foucs settings and default picture quality settings straight out of the camera. Thanks man!

I wouldn't say it's bad but definitely not a "professional" video camera. More of a prosumer level video camera

Pretty funny you say that because I've thought that about other KZbinrs that use this camera. I don't think my footage from my 6D Mark II looks that great when compared to them. All you can really do to get the best possible footage out of this camera is make sure that you have it set to 1920x1080, shoot in 24 frames per second, and set your shutter speed to 1/50. Those are the settings I usually use, but if you want I could make a video about it explaining it more in depth.

@@JakeBorowski15 I would love that! I used those settings too, with ISO 100 but it still looks way worse than the footage SheIn in this video. The image looks noisy or posterized. I don't know exactly what it is. But it doesn't look clean...
