Grant, your explanation of these settings is wonderful and so clear and helpful for me in particular who is just beginning with the 7 D mk11. I watch a lot of the You Tube videos to learn from as I find its so informative. I am most impressed with your clear presentations. I have set my AF to your settings , now to go do more birding. Thank you so much.

Damn these video's are such great info! I'm in doubt to buy a 7D Mark II or a 90D as an upgrade to my 'slow' focussing 77D. Of all the photo's of moving subject I take, the 77D misses quite a lot. These video's of you make me excited to buy an 7D Mark II and go out there, shooting birds and other animals!

Thank you for the videos Grant. Just purchased a 7D MKii. Shooting macro handheld and out in the field, I need to be able to switch focus points very quickly. Your videos helped me get my 7D all set up.

What an excellent tip! I usually use it both on focus , but I'll try your tip, and let's see how it goes. In my own xp, usually and I don't know why, around the 3rd or 4th pic is the best from the burst...perhaps this setting has all to do with it! Thanks again for another great and clear explanation!

Thanks for the very informative video! I happen to use back button focus but see occasion to use your method. Focus priority for first image and focus priority second image are my chosen method as sharp images are (to me) more important then speed in most cases. Well done presentation!

I use back button focusing but the opposite way. I hold down the back button to focus and release when I don't want it to focus. All the same I suppose.

would appreciate to know in AI servo 1st image priority the voice is between "Release" and Focus while in 2nd image priority the choice is between "Speed" and Focus. What, if any, is the difference between "Release" and "Speed' if it is going to "slow down the frame rate". Good to know 7D MK II "slows down the least" amongst 1DX 5DIII and 7D II.

but the nature of AF servo is that it DOES NOT have focus confirmation BEFORE shutter release, isnt it ??? so what does it mean to have focus priority you may try putting it at minimum focus and very quickly point to a tree in the distance while pressing the shutter button. It will release before you get proper focus.
@grantatkinson81088 жыл бұрын
+tommy leong if you set a 7Dmk2, or a 5Dmk3, or 5DSR, or 1DX, to Focus Priority it will influence how long it tries to focus when shooting in Ai Servo. If you put it on the highest setting for Focus Priority, the frame rate will slow down significantly if the subject is a difficult one for the camera to focus on, and it may even feel as it is hesitating to release the shutter, whilst trying to confirm AF.

Hello I bought a Canon EOS 7D mark 2 and now the time for the lens, what to choose Canon 400 mm f 5,6.tamron 150-600.sigma 150-600 Please help 🤔
@grantatkinson81088 жыл бұрын
I think it might depend on what you intend to shoot with the lens, and how close you can get to them? Also, will you shoot in very low light when the f5.6 aperture of the Canon L lens might be better?
