I get crazy good low light performance on HDR PQ. The dynamic range really seems to cater to shadows, however highlight and blowout recovery is almost non - existent. The opposite is true for CLOG 3

@@MvalzCreative Yeah. That’s spot on with what I’m getting.

Excuse me, but what image profile did you use? Neutral or standard? Did you make any modifications to these profiles?

As a very munch a newbie, and haveung a r50. Since it dosnt have a log profile. I have been playing hdr pq lately. I don't care if I don't have a hdr monitor my self, but I can see the difference in quality over standard 4k. Is it perfect for me its good enough. Till I can get a better video camera

@@Hazel-the-Amazon I had the R10 with no LOG and used hdr pq and got great footage.

@@BrentTouchstone I do plan up grading at some point to a camera that has a log profile. I don't know if it will be a cannon though. I love my r50, but I hate the fact that cannon limits who can make lens. Since my next Camera will mostly be a studio Camera. I'm going between zcam, Blackmagic design, or a Sony fx30. I'm mostly leaning towards the Sony though. I won't need a monitor right away, and when I go out ans shoot videos. It has better auto focus.

I don't know why YT doesn't notify you when someone replies to a reply lol. I just saw this. That's awesome. I have a lot of interest in the Sony Fx30. I'm kind of locked into Canon, but I've read great things.

@@BrentTouchstone Yea I would love a r7 for videos, but the lack of options for lens is my thing. I'm also looking at buying a Sony a6700 first. So I can still take pictures, and use it as a walk around camera.

thanks, just curious do you have highlight tone priority enabled? also exposure prio for midtones or highlights?
@BrentTouchstone6 ай бұрын
Hello, My R8 automatically turns on highlight priority if I turn on hdr PQ. PQ handles shadow recovery better than highlight. So I exposure to protect the highlights. I hope that helps.

This is all wrong - rec.709 isn't HDR, you won't get the range in such a small colour space, and it is incapable of processing luminosity. I would take this video down, or re-title it as it's misleading and is more just a live-blog of you exploring your hobby than an actual guide or comparison. It's also uploaded in 1080p SDR on YT, so imagine comparing colour samples and uploading in black and white...
@BrentTouchstone6 ай бұрын
I didn’t say rec.709 is HDR. You are welcome to your opinion about taking it down but people like it when I share my test. If I were you I’d take down all those boring motorcycle ride videos. This video has a 100% like ratio btw. I compared grading log vs grading hdr-pq in a rec.709 color space, which is possible and I like the results. You could also grade either/or in other color spaces.
@majormaccas6 ай бұрын
@@BrentTouchstone lol, that’s a very fragile response. Still, why shoot in hdr pq only to grade and render in SDR? Shooting colour just to render in black and white, you eliminate any benefit of using the expanded colour space you shot in…
@BrentTouchstone6 ай бұрын
@@majormaccas Your response sure was, lol. Why does everyone record in 10-12-14 bit only to deliver in the STANDARD REC.709 color space. More colors to work with! I can deliver it in a wider space for HDR10+ if I want to, but REC.709 is the standard. I'm off to shoot a film now, but if you can find a more in-depth video on HDR-PQ vs LOG please feel free to share it as myself and others would love to see it! I made this video because there is so little on the subject.
