I upgraded to a CANON 5D mk II 4 years ago. and it is ALRIGHT but I have been wanting this one for a while. I have to Rig my 5D up with things to make it optimal for shooting, but it seems you and I think alike when it comes to what makes a good camera. I hate rigging and love the built in ND filters, battery life, and everything this camera offers. I plan to upgrade to this camera this month :) thanks for the video man, I have been enjoying your content. Keep up the good work mate :)

I inherited two of these cameras at work from a team that moved on. At the time I was mainly shooting 4K on m43 cameras and really didn’t think I’d find the c100 useful. For quick interviews and live events I am surprised how often I still use the c100 cameras. They just so reliable and easy to use and the file size is small so I’m not having to constantly buy new hard drives. And despite their small file size the c-log clips are super easy to grade. Great video. Reminded why I love the c100 ugly ducklings.

A few notes on the bmpcc: - ND filters only on the 6k pro - ND only go 2, 4 and 6 stops, so you might end up adding extra filters on the front - It is a really clunky form factor. - You can buy the viewfinder extra, and it is very useful, however it is a low resolution screen. - A lightweight run&gun setup for the bmpcc 6k pro somewhat akin to the c100 is possible (you probably still want a cage, top handle and rails). But if you really wanna rig it, the formfactor is a hindrance.

Excellent work and thank you for sharing your craft. I would suggest the C200. Basically the C100 MK II but with 4k raw at 12 bit internal. Now, the raw files are large and you have to shoot them to C-fast cards but you can record HD internally onto 2 SD cards. EF mount so you keep all of your EF lenses. The ND filters have an additional stop. And you can find one used at a good price that won’t break the bank. The auto focus gives you more freedom. The focus box can be moved with the joystick or by touching the monitor screen.

Thanks a lot! 🙏🏾 I have bee researching a lot the C70 and slowly I'm falling in love with it even though I didn't touched it yet, Also it has 12 bit with new firm update and I kind love the body size, what you think between the two?
@lb7144
@lb7144 Жыл бұрын
@@AfricanFilmmaker The C70 is an excellent choice and you can record internally 4k to the SD cards. The eye track autofocus is 2nd to none and Canon is still sending firmware updates. Now you will need an adapter for the mini xlr mic ports. Hardly a negative point with so many positives. It’s way better than the C200 and has an RF mount. You can adapt your EF & EF-S lenses onto it. Sigma is possibly going to announce RF mount lenses soon for Canon. With your talent, the C70 will pay for itself on your first shoot. I currently have a C100 MKII and dream of the C200 or C70. I use my 90d for some of the small videoing I do.

Thank you. This was a very useful video presented by a newer filmaker with real experience. I lived the down to earth style and comparison to the Black magic cameras that everyone is talking about. I am a novice and bought a (2011) Canon C300PL for $600 last week without a lens. (I knew the internal battery was dead and only Canon can open it up so you need o store menus choices/time on a card,). I didn't realize how much more expensive cinema lenses were so I'm waiting for something near $400. I now have a chance to buy a C200 mk2 but the price is over twice without a lens so il pass... But thanks for the calm relaxed useful info.

Also, when I need to shoot 4K 10bit I use my LUMIX GH5s. It’s by no means perfect but you can get them pretty cheap second hand these days. Get a speedbooster and you can keep using the Canon EF glass you already have. I have a Ninja V that even allows you to shoot ProRes RAW externally from the GH5s. It is a bit fiddly to rig up but the results are great for the money.

Yaah! One of the most important thing I wish the C100 M2, Could have was the 10bit. As you mentioned earlier the footage are small and easy to grade, But the downside is 10 bit for music videos or commercials is not enough! if I may ask what do you shoot most with the GH5?.

@@AfricanFilmmaker It’s a lot of corporate stuff. I work in Silicon Valley so a lot of customer testimonials, product demos, live events etc. I’m usually called in at my company when there’s no money and usually no time. Then I use the equipment I have on hand which is a little dated (2x GH4, 2x C100 II, the GH5s and 2x Sony A6400). For most corporate interviews and testimonial shoots you need 2 cameras (wide and tight) and it’s easier if they’re identical but expensive when you have to buy new gear. If there’s budget I usually get to work with a production house who bring their own gear and I get to be the producer.

@@MartinTaylor415 Amazing! looks like a lot of work, its true that if the job don't pay that much why bother bring all the expensive stuff,Although most people will note care about that especially if they own a Red and they will use it even if the client didn't ask for it.corporate videos sound simple but I find them very time consuming and demanding when clients ask for million changes,😁

Maybe your next camera can be the Sony FS5? You can pick one up used quite easily (some people try to over charge, so look out for that). It has an excellent dial-in ND system, ready out of the box, and shoots 10bit HD (and 8 bit 4k). You can get far more out of an external recorder in the future if you wish. It also takes SD cards.
@AfricanFilmmaker

This sound great but my love for Sony is very small despite it image qualities the Menu's are very crazy, also grading the images personally took me a lot of efforts.But I will try to research on it, but what you think about the Sony FS6?
@aTADtoofar
@aTADtoofar Жыл бұрын
Hi - understood! The FX6 is an all round excellent camera. You can stick to an FX3 if you want a cheaper smaller package for the almost the same image, obviously the FX6 has more functionality. It’s also has a simpler quick menu in addition to the complicated SONY standard menu. Obviously there is a world of choice, but the FX6 and 3 are simply brilliant cameras all round at the moment, but only you will know if it’s what you need…

Great video and thoughts. I currently use the GH6 and use a variable ND on my lens. It’s great because it’s shoots 10bit and can even shoot ProRes. I enjoy vlog as it’s really easy grade since it’s 10bit and it has a dynamic range boost mode that I keep on at all times. It also has great stabilization built in. It’s small and has a built in fan. I mostly shoot events and documentaries so I have to be able move and shoot quickly-no gimbals! I bought mine used for less than $1300. And it also shoot’s up to 5.8k and up to 120fps. I mostly do 60 or 24. It may be worth considering fir your projects.

Hey @gazza8808 Thanks for your kind worlds!, I always use Wide DR because it has more details compare to the rest, for this camera Wide Dr is the highest picture profile with more details even though it will need you to spend some time in color grading, my process is very simple. for youtube videos I always use the Luts inside adobe premier pro I just scroll and find one that match skin tones and overall lighting, most of the time I find SL CLEAN CODAK B is perfect, after that I do some small adjustments.With my movie I color graded in davinci resolve, I normally do the color space transformation first and do the minor twist like contrast and saturation since the camera is only 8bit I try to be cautious not to stretch the image too much.I hop this was helpful and let me know if you have another question thanks.

Well with colour space transform first you need to set your timeline in colour management,COLOUR SCIENCE-Davinci YRGD,TIMELINE COLOURSPACE -Rec 709 gamma 2.4 if your content going online or tv, if is for cinema then its P3 DC, again this camera is only 8bit so I just want to bring the Rec 709 to life nothing fancy, then after that I do the color space transform IMPUT COROUR RSPACE-Canon cinema gamut,INPUT GAMA-Canon log, OUTPUT COLOUR SPACE-Canon cinema gamut,OUTPUT GAMA-Use timeline. and from here I do small twitching and adjustments. I never use Zebra I find it not accurate sometimes I always us Wave form, with wave form always don't Under expose it bellow 0 or Over expose above 90 or 100 I always try to keep it in the middle, from here you can have a well balanced image. I hop I answered your question!

@@AfricanFilmmaker brilliant. Thank you. My current process is using owlcolor picture profile (which aims for an arri colour space) and converting it to arri log using colour space transform. then from there to rec709.
