Thank you Carlos, loved this thoughtful and very well explained comparison. I’ve watched all of your videos about the new Canon. I took delivery of my C500 Mark II a couple of weeks ago. I’m noticing some banding/bars when shooting low light/high ISO, which I was surprised at. Yes I was expecting noise, but not banding. I was wondering if you’ve also seen this when you’ve pushed your Canon in very low light?
@carlosq004 жыл бұрын
When you say pushed hard, are you trying to recover more than 3 stops? What ISO? and did you ABB when you changed the ISO?
@ogston4 жыл бұрын
@@carlosq00 Thanks for taking the time to reply Carlos! :-) I've been testing out at 5000 and 8000 ISO in a room lit only by a large TV. Hitting the ABB function actually helped a huge amount to clean up the image. However I am still seeing some banding at the very high ISOs (albeit less visible, and less noise, than before). So i'm going to do some more tests to see if there's an element of light streaking across the lens to create the banding... or if it is something else.

Consider this an open invitation to collaborate where you can help set up a test shoot and comparison so that we can both leverage our experience to share with this community. That should help us all sort out the variables associated with using a free platform like KZbin to show results.

Thanks for sharing your insights in detail! After owning the XC10, the C300 MkII and the C200, the C500m2 appears to me as the one Canon camera with the least trade-offs, in other words it seems to be the most "mature" Canon camera on the market. My work ranges from industrial "filmic" work to news and documentaries and this camera feels equally at home rigged up shooting 6K raw with prime lenses or just as a "video camera" in my hands shooting news with a 24-70 or 24-105. Around here, that kind of work is almost exclusively delivered in HD / Rec709, so the different sensor crop modes are helpful for that "extra reach" or "extra wide angle" without having to change lenses in the field. Exposed correctly, even Wide Dynamic Range Gamma still reflects the camera's high dynamic range capabilities. Couple all of that with a reliable autofocus for the stressful news situations without any time to set up and a video-camera-esque form factor and it's pretty clear to see why the C500m2 is the perfect partner for my productions. Four channels of high quality audio and the fact that I don't have to invest in additional batteries thanks to the C300m2 / C200 heritage round up the already stellar picture. The one thing nobody seems to mention is that Canon are pretty honest when it comes to the actual image the camera delivers. Ever since I sold my Sony F5 some years ago I haven't held a Sony in my hands that didn't feature some artifact-inducing - pixel-binning - line skipping misery in regards to sensor readout, especially in HFR modes, but that's a different story... stay safe!

Great review thanks! Please do zoom in, it's not because you or I would ever do this on a paid project. However when watching this on a phone + KZbin compression, it helps highlight things like noise, detail and other things that a 480/720p heavily compressed KZbin stream wouldn't deliver.

Great video once again! Thanx Carlos for all your effort. The only unfortunate thing is that Sony is dominating the market here in the Netherlands. So far I’ve owned a C300 and the mkii version. But I ended up using a rented Sony FS7 or F5/F55 more often than I wanted. Now the FX9 is stealing ground... Hopefully this C500mkii will change the way of thinking at least here in Holland. Thanx again Carlos!

Not needed to match cameras in post often drive the gear choices, because we all have to stay employed...I do think that this camera will change a lot of productions, but Canon does have some work to do to win over several markets.

the canon looks like DSLR as always.
@carlosq004 жыл бұрын
that's kind of a funny statement. What makes an image generally is the lens.
@jonravid32344 жыл бұрын
@@carlosq00 i disagree, lens definitely gives a certain look, but color science is more important to me, and that something that affects a lot. look at this, 48$ glass and looks better than the c500 in my opinion kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3ecanWba7SArdk
@JohnnieButtersonline4 жыл бұрын
@@jonravid3234 color science is still a personal taste though and RED doesn't win any awards usually there, ARRI does and although canon is known to have the DSLR look, Canon matches much better with an ARRI than a RED to which says a lot. RED has always had a unique look to me, not a bad thing but also not a natural thing either. It's all personal preference but in this video. Canon wins hands down.

Heyyy. Thanks for the video. Really got to know about these cameras. I have a question. If I want to shoot a commercial in a indoor set up. Which camera you would recommend? Sony Fs7 or Red Epic or Canon C500 or any other ?
@carlosq004 жыл бұрын
if you have a full crew and a nice budget for lighting, the RED would be very nice but all three of these cameras would perform well. If you have a smaller budget or need lots of flexibility quick setups and some conditions may be less than perfect, the C500 Mark II will thrive and from what I've seen from friends who use the FS7 on a regular basis, it looks like that camera would also be a great choice.
