found my parents old camcorder, the same exact one, thank i for the video!! I just need the battery charger and camera charger then im all set!!! can’t wait

If you record in 4:3 you use more of the CCD chip and you have more resolution, meaning you get better quality.

It really depends on the camera, some could actually do true 16:9

@@SuperCartoonist this aint a Hi8/video8 camera which several models could do 16:9 anamorphic with 4:3 video

Yeah it's a fun camcorder for sure. I've actually been using it quite a bit even after I made this video.

Do all dvd/cd camcorders from the time run only on mini dvds? Those discs are harder to find, than mini dvs!

Yeah I think these all run on mini DVD-R. I bought a bunch of them before they stopped selling them at CVS/Walgreens so I have a good amount of new old stock. Mini DVs are also hard to find for me.

Just bought one on eBay (as a collectible curiosity) for just over twenty quid! Came complete with two sealed discs.

That's a great deal. Those discs are hard to find now. I bought a bunch of them a few years ago before they stopped making them.

I got a PAL version of this camcorder today but i couldnt test it because there was no battery inside. It looks sturdy though

how did you transfer it to computer?

I finalized the disc in the camcorder. Then played the disc using my DVD player. I connected the DVD player to my computer using an HDMI cable and an HDMI capture device. Then I recorded the footage with QuickTime player on my mac. Apparently there is also a way to rip the video files directly from the disc but I was not able to do it because my computer's DVD reader does not read mini-DVDs. Maybe I'll do a video about this process next time.

@@erasertech16it's super easy to rip discs once finalized. Just put the disc in a DVD or Blu-ray drive and copy the .vob file(s) to you computer. Change the extension from .vob to .mpg. You're done. You've now got mpeg2 video files. They should play just fine in most software video players. But you could convert them to .MP4 files using Handbrake if you want. Should help you reduce the size even more while keeping similar visual quality. Though personally I would just keep them native mpeg2 files, as any further compression will degrade the quality somewhat.

Luckily, my computer does read mini-dvds. After I finalize the disk, I use a free software called Handbrake to convert the footage to an mp4. The conversion takes about 20 minutes, but it's easier than screencapturing the footage off my screen for me.

Does the camera have to be on in order for the DVD area to open ?

Yes, you need a battery or AC cable.

Yes, if you press the eject button while the camera is off the door won't open.

Can you use the AV-Out as a live monitor? Trying to see if I can connect it to a monitor recorder instead of using discs

Yeah you can use the AV-out to connect to a monitor with RCA connections. However, I'm not sure if the camera has a timeout feature if it's not used after a while. Perhaps you just have to leave it connected to the power but I'm not sure.

Mine is broken I think. My son found it yesterday and it’s fully charged however the power light and where it says disc/chr are fully red. Can’t open the dvd to remove the dvd or even put in a new one. It’s a shame because I took it to Greece and have never been able to recover it since

That's too bad. These are fun camcorders. Maybe try putting the disc on one that works so you can save the footage.

I purchased a new battery on Amazon. Got a full charge but still unable to get the disc ejected. So I’ll see if I can take it to a shop and see if they can try and get it open

@@vivalasvegasimcic I think I have the same problem as you, I secretly took my father's old video camera that he used to record videos for me as a child, I put it on charge and turned it on but it didn't turn on, it turned on with the initialization screen but after a while it went off, if I try to remove the disc by sliding the open button the LED lights up but it flashes twice and it doesn't open, I just wanted to try it as I had never tried it, the camera is 15 years old

@@vivalasvegasimcic however, the signs of life have been there since I have the power supply connected, without it the battery seems to be dead (the LEDs come on but after 0.3 seconds they go off and the video camera no longer works)
