It's almost perfect for travel, when you only can bring one lens and are on a budget. I use it on my Canon 5d Mk 2. People say I should buy the 24-70 f/2.8. But the price is so much higher.

For almost the same price you can get two more modern primes (24 and 85 for example) that weigh less (a lot less if you were using an adapter with this on mirrorless), are 2+ stops faster, still have IS, still have near-macro, are significantly sharper, better build quality, and have control rings. You're giving up such a MASSIVE amount of performance just for a 2 seconds of effort of switching lenses and not wearing a simple belt pouch, the use case is just so niche IMO. For less money, but not the weight savings, (or if you're using an EF body) you can get Tamron SP versions of the same thing, which are also stellar.
