Fantastic video, thank you! Enabled me to (1) fix my sticky zoom (clutch material breaking down and jamming the slide) and (2) clean out dust from behind the outermost glass element. Idiot's tip - don't dismantle the clutch, just clean it (I spent an hour refitting around 200? 0.7mm? bearings into the clutch).

hi siauliutv in my 28-300 it no longer brakes the stroke between SMOOTH and TIGHT practically the seal is worn! if I remove it, with what do you advise me to restore the clutch? I thank you so much

Similar problem to what I had with my lens, the clutch material was worn/breaking down. After cleaning it (using the first few steps of dismantling in this video), the clutch has a few steps of adjustment. With the lens assembled, loosen the clutch maybe 50% and undo/remove the two screws (either side of "SMOOTH O O TIGHT" on the clutch ring). Gently tighten the clutch ring, watching through the screw holes for the next two to line up with the screw holes in the brass part behind - align the screws with the holes and refit. This will tighten the clutch.

what kind of screwdrivers did you use, firm?

Canon lenses normally use JIS 01 or 001 (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws, Wera make some nice quality screwdrivers. Dont use philips or pozi, they do fit but not very well and it wont go well for very long.
