Got to say - you guys are fabulous. I have really enjoyed all your reviews. You are informative and fun at the same time. I never feel patronised even though I am a novice really and I always learn something of value. More than anything your passion for photography comes through no matter what you are reviewing and you make me want to get hold of my camera and just photograph what is on my desk. Then get outside and photograph the world again and again. I love it. Thanks for being so diligent and making the videos so helpful. This camera seems like more evidence that Canon is looking after its pro sports users. It has the upgrades they might want and gives them a taste of the mirrorless life. It respects their world and their needs but lets them know what is coming. I have never been a Canon sports photographer so cannot know definitively what sone might think of this but it does seem to be a workhorse camera built for someone who already has the MKII. $6K is a lot to drop on a camera especially as you will need another $1.2K for the largest memory card - and twice that for two of them. For that, this camera had better BE your whole business!! I look forward to seeing a review of the finished production model with any kinks worked out and production level soft and hardware. Thanks again. All the best with the baby!! ... I suppose, just like everyone else, I am wondering how this camera will fare against the upcoming Nikon equivalent. Hmmmmmmmmm

The 1Dx series are The God for us photographers. They all are made with focus on still photography in any environment. For videos we have other cameras. Even if the 1Dx Mark III has a very good video update. Live on the professional DSLR's. The feel in the hand is so pro it can be. Every part in the camera is built to last. Battery and charger is 10+ quality. I have the 1Dx and this Mark III. Outside the two cameras are quite the same. Inside on the MIII is phenomenal. AF on these machines are absolutely the best ever made in the DSLR world. From 10k taken photos I found only 2 that was not sharp. Even with the Mark1 1Dx there's no focusing issues if the lens and camera are in shape and You know how to use them right. The One Dee Xes are highly advanced techically, so there's a need to take them to a service shop once a year to check and adjust everything in the camera.

At 8:45 the 30 minutes video recording limit is an issue. The 30 minutes restriction is very very common with cheap and even more expensive cameras. Cameras that record more than 30 minutes are considered videocameras and the European Union after 2006 attach a 12% duty to import of them. For a 6.500€ camera like the Canon 1Dx mark III, the duty can be 780€. This amount of money isn't insignificant and can be a factor for selecting a camera. USA, Canada, Britain after Brexit and many other countries don't have special videocamera duty. However camera manufacturers don't bother changing the firmware according to the country each camera is dispatched. Usually videographers don't shoot continuously more than 30 minutes and many cameras like the early generations of Sony a7 overheat and automatically shut down after 15-20 minutes in hot environments. However the case of an event you may need to record more than 30 minutes continuously. So you must use an external timer and have the anxiety to restart recording immediately after 29minutes and 59 seconds are reached. Some firmware hacks exist for many cameras but aren't really safe.

Hey guys Great Video. I had a few comments regarding the perception of DSLR. Mirrorless Cameras are newer models, and thus have more features to DSLR up to this point. However they aren’t inherent to mirrorless. DSLRs have no design limitations holding them back. The 1DXII and D5 (2014-15) both witch feature auto autofocus point selection and tracking, however things like Eye af in the Sony A9 ( 2018) are because it is a newer camera than the 2015 era cameras, this is why people thought they had newer features because the cameras were mirrorless. However this isn’t the case. DSLR also have a separate sensor in the prism that has actual RGB pixels for face and eye tracking. Now they they have increased the resolution of these autofocus sensors, there will be no difference.

Cool to see the Dinos! I am the official photographer for the Vikes at the University of Victoria, so I definitely relate! The 1Dxiii is definitely a beast of a camera but to me Canon is playing a game I predicted last year and i dislike: Canon is delivering DSLRs intentionality made to make users appreciate and desire mirrorless cameras. Definitely a great marketing scheme that works well for the largest market share. I feel that Canon is abusing the pro shooters by making them pay a premium for alluring them in their mirrorless future. They could have at least offered a removable EVF.

One other reason that it’s a DSLR could be that this camera lives with those long L lenses. There are no RF options and while they can be adapted, it’s one more thing to futz with that pros don’t need.

I have yet to see a review that talks about how good the 1DXlll focuses in live view for sports. it's easy for Canon to make a camera that can shoot 20fps in live view. or mirrorless. but that doesn't mean anything if it only gets three shots out of the 20 in focus. you guys talked about how it's hard to hold the camera out with a big lens on it to look at the back screen. but I want to know if you did hold it out. how good does it focus. because without ever trying the camera, I would bet it's similar to the EOSr focusing when shooting sports. but Canon has tricked a bunch of fools into thinking that because it shoots 20fps in live view that that means that Canon has something like the Sony A9 or A9ll. which is not the case at all. the A9 has a special sensor that enables you to shoot in live view or silent mode with no rolling shutter, so no bent gulf clubs. or baseball bats when shooting at 20fps, and no black out between frames. and it locks on to people like glue at 20fps. so no Canon has not caught up to Sony's focusing. for me the coolest thing on the new 1DXlll is the optical joy stick for moving focus points. and it's video features. but it still weighs like a brick. and is old technology, and Canon has made it clear that their future goal is to continue to develop mirrorless technology and glass. they aren't even going to make any new lens designs for the DSLR's anymore. so to finish, I am still waiting for a review that actually talks about how the focusing performs in live view for sports or wildlife. ( not portraits )

I had the opportunity to get a short sneak peek on the camera before Christmas ... And the the one feature I really liked most is the new "sensor-joy" stick for the focus point. Being a full time Nikon shooter ... I would love to see similar feature on my next Nikon, and of course ... I hope Canon will put that on other cameras as well. Also I am glad Canon got the CFExpress card. About DSLR or mirrorless. I guess pro sport still photographers are a bit conservative? They complain about looking at a EVF for some hours ... I have not heard any complains about that from pro TV photographers? And coming from TV production as a TV photographer, I must say I love the EVF on my Nikon Z6 ...

It's a full-frame sensor vs. super 35mm on the C200. If you wanted the full-frame look and RAW footage it could be a good option. But, in every other way (audio, power, ergonomics, ND filter, media flexibility etc.) I think the C200 is a better rig for video at this price point.

Shooting sports in Live View is a frustrating experience. Consequently the 1DX's 20fps electronic shutter is not a viable option. Thus, the only usable frame rate is 16 mechanical. Shooting this fast through the optical viewfinder is just a dizzy blur. Now you're really spraying and praying. This is where the Sony A9II shines. You can blaze along at 20fps without any hint of viewfinder blackout and still retain that immersive experience as you follow the action.
@FishinMagik4 жыл бұрын
Except that you can’t shoot full RAW at that speed in the Sony A9II (most Sony folks leave that out) and that Sony doesn’t have anywhere near the glass options that Canon does, period. Now, 16fps through an optical viewfinder isn’t a dizzy blur for professional sports photographers. In fact, I’ll tell you flat out that I don’t notice the micro millisecond blackout that you feel is a deal breaker. In the end, you can try to shill for Sony but there’s one little issue standing in your way, facts. Canon has more, and better, native glass. The Sony A9II’s buffer, shooting compressed raw, can’t keep up with the 1Dx Mark IIII’s shoot full raw, and the battery life of the 1Dx simply kicks Sony in the teeth. It’s best to have your facts straight before posting something so foolish.
@sosomelodies6594 жыл бұрын
@@FishinMagik My facts are straight. $6500 1dx vs $4500 a9II. A9 pushes above it's weight. I have a Canon dslr too and I know the difference. A9 experience is otherworldly. Maybe you should stop shilling for Canon. Ha!
@jimmyqballs4 жыл бұрын
@@sosomelodies659 Yeah I dunno why anyone would need to shoot 14 bit raw for sports, considering you always hear "pros shoot jpeg and only need 20 megapixels (which is dumb)" lol - Both cameras are overpriced though

@@jimmyqballs I think that's why Sony chose to stick with dual UHS-II slots and keep 24mp sensor. JPEG writes lightning fast for sports.

Soso Melodies so now you’re going to make a comparison of two drastically different cameras based on price as a way to combat your previous feeble statement? Oh, and to top it off, you’re going to rely on YOUR opinion because you own a “Canon DSLR”. Notice you didn’t specify which model, but we know why ;-) I’m not shilling for Canon, I don’t need to. The easiest way to show you that your argument is garbage is to see what market share The Canon 1Dx Mark II has verse ANY Sony platform camera. You’d soon realize how uninformed you truly are. FYI the market share for the 1Dx Mark II/III is roughly 90%, but go ahead and double down on your argument again and attempt to prove me wrong by using your own personal experience. ~Derp

A great video. But a look into the past, the time of the dinosaurs :) I think this is the last professional DSLR from Canon, same as the D6 for Nikon. Also Professionals will have to move after the Olympics to Mirrorless, like it or not. Sorry to say, but using Live View on a DSLR really sucks. I never saw anyone around me using a large and heavy prime lens on a DSLR in Live View, 95%+x of the shots are taken in OVF Mode. And then you are back to 16fps. A Sony A9 II delivers 20fps. Sorry, bad value either for the 1DX Mark III.
