I shoot on a Leica R4 at the moment… and even with mechanical wound advance in all its 80’s glory, I still blow through film fast. But 7fps on film would straight up break the bank. But I’d love to use it a bit, the stuff they were making in pro media when I was being born/super young was so cool. It was the sunset of the analog age, so everything was super modern and similar to current gear yet still analog. Very cool camera

I purchased one of these cameras from Japan via eBay this year and I am so happy with it. The booster is permanently attached to the camera and I don’t mind a so called heavy camera. It looks great. I also have an Eos 1, 1n, and a 1n RS. Solid and reliable equipment.

it being big is why i want one, i recently bought a canon 90d instead of a mirrorless just because it's a bigger body, i have big ape paws and i hate little skinny cameras, i always feel like i'm going ot drop it, i want a big heavy camera something i can hold onto and something that can survive if i fall down a hill in the middle of the woods.

@@seanblank9708 Nice pickup Sean. Recently I got a Canon 5D classic just because I have seen a lot of people compare that its sensor is the closest Canon color science to film colors. And after briefly shooting with it, I really enjoy the look from it. Not to mention the grain on the photos just look amazing coming from a 12 megapixel sensor.

my favorite part is the setting that allows you to rewind the film but leave the little leader bit sticking out of the can in case you devolop your own film so you wont have to break the canister or go fishing inside it with a tool to grab it, i dont have this camera yet but i'm going to get it, because the Canon A1 SLR i have currently is just not robust enough for what i would like to do, i want no worries and auto focus and to use the lenses i have on my other EoS DSLR's. (the a1 is an awesome camera though, it's just not weather proof is all)
@erwnalejo2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the A1 and the 1V are definitely light years apart in terms of functionality. But A1 honestly taught me a lot when I used to have it and made me shoot better because it’s a mechanical camera. And with that knowledge, using it with 1V, is just even more amazing!

I went with the 1N specifically with no battery grip. The reason is that I have the grip for my 5D MK III but almost never used it in 7 years. Lose the grip, slap on a prime L lens, you will use the camera more often and not be second thinking about carrying the extra weight. My opinion. Cheers...
@erwnalejo4 жыл бұрын
Tht’s fair! I sometimes wonder if I can temove the grip on the 1V and use it without one as it really is heavy especially pairing it with L lenses
@john_murch4 жыл бұрын
@@erwnalejo You can! Just buy the dedicated battery for it and lose that grip it's a waste of weight. 8-10 frames per second? With film that's not going to happen. Shooting the Olympics or NFL football with film, those days are over. Also regarding lenses. I started out with a big F2.8 zoom trio. As my photography improved, I gravitated toward L primes. Makes you think more about compositions, great image quality, better in low light/night shooting due to faster glass (better low light gathering ability) and less weight! Of course zooms have there place ie; weddings, events etc. but for personal shooting I will grab a 35 L F1.4 (V1) and 135 F2. Awesome combination and quite manageable weight. That's my style though and your mileage may vary...

is there a major difference between the 1N and the 1V??? Also, if I used f1.8 lens on either cameras, would it be good enough in low light scenarios where I don't really need a tripod or flash?? Im talking enough light you get in a dimly bar or from street lights, etc. My Pentax and lens I have with that can not handle those situations
@john_murch3 жыл бұрын
@@nikolatorres6022 The 1V is the newer version with more advanced autofocus and faster frames per second. However, most film shooters these days tend to shoot more slowly, one shot, for that reason I'm fine with the 1N. Regarding shooting in low light, use the fastest lens available F1.2, F1.4. F1.8 is also pretty good. When I shoot in low light I use a fast film like Portra 800 or Lomo 800 and I push it 1 or 2 stops (exposed and lab processed at ISO 1600 or 3200. For B&W you could use T-Max 3200. The reality is when shooting film in low light you need...light! In dimly lit bars etc. you are really pushing the boundaries of what film can handle. This is why most photographers switch to digital in very low light. Here are some examples of Lomo 800 I rated and processed at ISO 3200, F1.4 and S/S 1/60th...instagram.com/p/CIFxnjfHTEc/, instagram.com/p/CIP2f5iHm0w/, instagram.com/p/CIUw9NiH8dq/
@john_murch3 жыл бұрын
@Nikola Torres The bottom line for hand-held film shooting in low light is that you need: 1) fast lens 2) fast film 3) light! (light being the most important). Camera brand/model doesn't matter very much. I hope that helps!

The battery grip that I have uses 8 double AA batteries.
@dps61984 жыл бұрын
I bought a 1V HS that has a fill count of 65 rolls. It's in near mint condition. It came with the camera, PB-E2 power booster, NiMH battery and charger and a BM-E2 battery magazine which holds 8 AA batteries. The NiMH batteries are hard to find. AA batteries will be with us for a long time. The PB-E2 is compatible with the EOS 1 and EOS 3. Do not use the NiMH rechargeable battery with the EOS 1 or EOS 3. The battery has too much voltage and will fry the circuit. Use the battery magazine and AA batteries. The removable battery grip of the EOS 1 is compatible with the 1V if you don't want to use the power booster. It takes one 2CR5 battery. ***UPDATE*** The camera died on a trip to the country in the spring while we were shooting landscape and wildflower images. I couldn't find anyone that could make the repairs. 😡Grrrr! I replaced with with an EOS 1N and used the PB-E2 from the 1V on the 1N since it is backwards compatible.

would you consider this to be a good beginner camera for someone getting into film photography?
@erwnalejo4 жыл бұрын
Isaac Miguel Yes and no. Yes because it definitely functions just like a Canon DSLR if you have used one and you will be able to settle pretty well with this one only of course you have to learn how to change the ISO and stuff which is straight forward. No. Because if you’re on a budget, there are other film cameras out there that is a fraction of the cost of this one that comes with the standard lens as well. This camera will require you to buy additional EF lenses to go with it. Also, if you want to learn film from the bottom, this might not do a lot for you since this is pretty much all automatic and does the thinking for you. But with manual SLRs you will have an authentic feel for it and you will learn the basics and fundamentals of shooting film. In conclusion, it really is up to you. But in my experience when I was a beginner, I really loved shooting with the cheaper manual slrs such as the Pentax K-1000, Canon AE-1 Program and Minolta X-700. I still use these cameras to this day and I still love using them. If I may suggest, try to go with somethng cheap first and see it for yourself. Atleast if you realize film is not something you like to do, you won’t be breaking the bank. I hope this helps! Also, just ask if you need anything! :)
@dps61984 жыл бұрын
Learn the basics of photography; lighting, composition, shutter speed, aperture, metering, prime lenses and patience. Don't get ahead of your self. Film photography forces you to slow down. You won't see the results until the film is developed and printed. The big problem I see with digital cameras and that includes smart phone cameras is the lack of composition and creativity. With DSLR cameras every one and I mean everyone just has to look at each photo after its shot. Thereby missing other photo ops. Turn the preview setting off on you DSLR then shoot. If you don't trust yourself that you have to check each image right after its shot then you need to return to the basics of photography or give it up. Oh...software editing tools are not substitutes for talent. Do you really want to spend more time in front of a computer than you spend out in the field taking photos? Leave those hours and hours of photo editing to the amateurs who cannot get it right at the snap of the shutter.
