Hi, in this video I attempt to fix a camera sent over by Daan all the way from Singapore. After taking 400,000 photos, the camera now doesn't power on.
Can it be fixed?
The main time-lapse isn't finished yet, but check out Daan's one day time-lapse on this link here taken with this camera • Timelapse from a day i...
See if you can spot the satellites shooting across the sky 📷👍
If you would like to support these videos, please click here / mymatevince
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

The shutters on modern (pro level) digital cameras are rated for around 150,000 activations. This 2000D is on the bottom end of mid range for consumer DSLR cameras. I am guessing the rating on that shutter is 100k or fewer activations. If the camera has 400,000+ on it just call it a day. Some things are worth saving and some aren't. A 5+ year old camera that has taken nearly half a million photos is done. No matter what you do if you dont replace the mechanisms for the shutter and mirror they will fail sooner rather than later. They weren't built with 400,000+ photos in mind when this camera was designed. This camera can be bought new with a kit lens for $5450 and resell sites have them for around $250 with between 1k and 30k shutter activations. 400,000 photos on a consumer level digital camera is probably about 4x as many as you should expect. This camera has lived a hard life, maybe it's time to let it retire to a nice cabin in the woods. That is a ridiculous amount of photos for what was designed as an entry to mid-level consumer DSLR. I have seen a Rebel t5i with nearly 800,000 clicks and the owner said it had never been serviced and still worked like new. So this T7 could go for many more years. Good work as always.

Reviewing your pictures at the end, I have a feeling that the camera is focusing too close. However, this is a setting in the firmware (on my 5D at least it is). Since you removed the coin cell battery, the factory focus setting is probably gone. You should look online how to microtune the focus. This can usually be done in software, this is not a hardware setting. Also for some, you were probably too close. This is not a macro lens you've got on :)

I reckon the fault was caused by the "peak" that he had inside! Maybe it was a sharp peak. (I'm referring to the letter from Daan.) Back in the days of film cameras, the day after my wedding, I dismantled a "Praktika Super TL" and eventually found that the coil spring of the meter had jumped over the back end of the needle and had jammed it in the zero position. So, no matter what you set the aperture to, it was always correct! As a result, our wedding photos mostly turned out black. After I'd reassembled the camera, I was left with two "spare" washers but it worked perfectly for years afterwards.

I'd have given up at the ribbon cable point! The pictures look OK, just a narrow depth of field caused by wide apperture. Close the lens aperture down and either use a higher ISO setting or a longer exposure and more depth will be in focus.

Great video MMV, but never ever mess with a CCD unless you have the correct equipment to set it back up. I learnt this when I used to repair fax machines. 👍🏻
@TechGorilla1987
@TechGorilla1987 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for teaching me something today!! I have used fax machines since their rise in popularity and I never realized that a CCD was involved. "The fax machine typically has a CCD or photo-diode sensing array. It contains 1,728 sensors (203 pixels per inch), so it can scan an entire line of the document at one time. The paper is lit by a small fluorescent tube so that the sensor has a clear view."
@MurrayMints
@MurrayMints 2 жыл бұрын
@@TechGorilla1987 No problem, so if you ever have to move a fax machine treat it as FRAGILE, because if you bash it around and unseat the CCD it'll usually end up as scrap. 👍🏻 I once had a customer try to fax a piece of tartan fabric ?!?! 😆🤦🏻‍♂️
