I was going to be a Sony apologist and suggest thinking about a used A9 since this video really talked about getting used gear at KEH. Full frame, usable 20 fps for sports, great third party lens support, etc. I then looked there, and to get a used A9 in excellent condition, it’s still over $2000. More than double the new R10. I don’t think there’s any stacked sensor camera at the R10 price point, so fast mechanical shutter sounds great.

I have an EOS RP and plan on adding an R10 to the kit this month. With the luxury of having two cameras, the RP+R10 pairing is a pretty potent combination - very good quality, plenty of advanced features and customization, great weight, and cross-compatibility of lenses. With focal length ranges from 15mm to 600mm (960 effective on the R10) I’ll have a kit for pretty much any and every opportunity that comes my way. And the two cameras are close enough in specs and use many of the same accessories, and have a very similar control layout. I am really excited about things to come.

@@diegodominguez205 I can't really comment on the R7s use in portrait, but everyone I talk to said to save up for a full frame. But for wildlife, it's pretty good. I only recently tried my hand at birding...its a lot harder then it looks, especially with a 4lbs lens handheld.

Good video, with great content and advice. Two points though. The number of ad slots for KEH made it almost feel like the entire video was an ad. I understand that ads are a necessary but this felt a bit over the top. Also, if you're going to hold manufacturers to high standards when talking about equivalence, please do so yourself. You mention 600mm f11 being a 900mm but skip over the equivalent aperture. If this were a manufacturer you'd definitely highlight that. A nit-pick I know, but a valid point.

I have a question should I get the Canon RF 600mm F11 IS STM Lens you recommend on this video or get an adapter and get the Sigma 150 to 600 mm? What decides shutter speed at low frame rates? I'd like to shoot at 4K and have clear, crisp frames and it would be nice to know how this camera records but this is one spec that manufacturers don't tell us. I guess another option is to utilize the continuous mechanical shutter at 15 FPS and this camera is capable of doing so for a full 30 sec. BUT that would really rack up the shutter count while I'm filming races.

What do you think about speed-boosters for canon r10. I hear the canon has some purple fringing but the 2 viltrox s.boosters seem good? There aren’t any reviews for photo and none comparing the canon to the 2 viltrox. Now canon has good crop bodies but limited crop lenses. So it seems like a possible work around but I’d like to be sure before recommending to friends looking to get into photography. Reviews please? 🙏

I had the m6 ii with the sigma 150-600 c lens. Sold both and will get the r10 and the 600 f11. Half the weight plus I can shoot 4k 60fps at 1500mm with bird eye autofocus.

I have a Sony RX10 IV I have been using for a while. (I love it by the way) I shoot mainly landscape and my kids sports photography.. Also wildlife.. So I was wanting to upgrade to a mirrorless camera for more crisp photos.. The RX 10 IV was my first camera i got after a point and shoot.. So I am not a great photographer by any means but love great photos I can frame for our house.. Would you recommend this Canon? or Something else? I love the price point on it.. Your videos are so helpful and I would appreciate your advice! I shoot mostly calm and friendly farm animals at home in dusty, hot Arizona, not flighty wildlife on location, and am about to upgrade from point and shoot and phone cameras. I think I want a hybrid that can make animal video shorts for social media, as well as landscape, some sport and astrophotography prints. Or, do I want a classic DLSR to learn on before upgrading to a mirrorless full frame? Budget is $1500-$3000 (with at least one lens). Open to used cameras. What is your recommendation, please? Am looking for an “entry level” wildlife camera. How would you rank the R10, R7, and 7D mkii? Was considering the 7Dmkii as I’ve been using Canon APS-C cameras since the original Digital Rebel, so have a collection of glass with the EF and EF-S mounts. The R10 and R7 re definitely superior to the 7D II. The R7 is a worthwhile upgrade thanks to it's bigger buffer, better EVF and 2 card slots.

Well, shooting daylight golf hardly makes the R10 a true sports camera, just because it can shoot 15 fps but cannot get away from a rolling shutter in electronic shutter mode for still photos. For golf, everyone is in a standing position and not a lot of movement, except for the swing, so AF need not be sophisticated. In daylight, it's easy to get by with low ISO and faster shutter speeds. A truer test for the R10 adaptation to sports is go shoot a high school football night game-Friday Night Light! Lots of player movement, player interactions, a usually terrible lighting that demands a high ISO for 1/1000 sec or lower ISO for 1/800 of a second with detectable motion blur. Of course, the R10 has notable AF features for an entry level digital camera, and a long step ahead of those Canon Rebels. Haha

Tony, don't blame the camera for missing the fact you were in high frame rate. Below the H in the upper left corner, note the display of "FHD" (full HD or 1080) and the frame rate of 119.9p. The R5 and R6 show it the same way. I agree, that's not intuitive for a newbie, but you've shot the R5. The real user interface problem is having to dive into the menu to enable high frame rate. It's a pain in all the Canons that I know of. EDIT: that mechanical shutter is really loud. I hear the R7 is, too. But I guess if you're far enough away, the birds won't mind. Much.

I just looked at the manual online trying to find what other frame rates there are between 1 and 15. I couldn't find it, but that's not surprising considering the manual is 900+ pages.

The R5 and R6 have three burst settings: low speed continuous, high speed continuous, and high speed continuous +. The PDF shows they mean about 3, 6, and 12 FPS respectively in mechanical. Electronic shutter HSC+ gives you 20 FPS. I presume the R7 and R10 settings are similar but with higher FPS in HSC+ mode.

KEH does NOT sell NEW cameras! I've dealt with KEH over the past 10 or 15 years and they used to sell new gear. I traded in my Pentax 35mm cameras and got a slight discount on some new gear. I was very satisfied. I recently sold them my Canon 90D and had to buy my new Canon R7 from another retailer. PLEASE... Chelsea & Tony tell them to improve their website! They also lost a sale from me because I did not know they sold film. I had to dig deep into their website for Kodak and found they were selling film at a very competitive price! I had to order film from that giant river named website. KEH should have a top level link for film and new products.

Field of view. Crop sensor has a 1.6x crop. A 600mm lens would have a field of view of the 960mm lens on a crop body.

There are three RF-S lenses from Canon (all of them narrow aperture zooms), and they make it hard for third party manufacturers to produce lenses for this mount. Why the hell would anyone buy into such a system when there are alternatives with a good selection of native lenses?
