I just bought this camera. And I’m not an avid user of YT but this may be the best put together tutorial I’ve ever seen. Genuinely all around amazing and digestible. Thank you for all your effort.

I have been wanting to get a nice camera and finally purchased this today. I was searching for tips and tricks and came across this video. I must say I feel like a semi-amateur now thanks to how well you explained everything. Super excited to start my photographer journey.

This is a very very amazing tutorial. I was worrying and was confused as well about the lot of settings, but when I found your video I thought to give it a try. And within a few minutes, I was sold. You have gone in depth as you could have and told a lot of complicated settings as well which a lot of other videos have not. Thank you so much for creating this video. It has helped me a lot understand my camera better. 💙

Thanks for this video - i haven't watched it yet ... i am 63 and have wanted a real camera my whole life. so now i got one for christmas and i still haven't learned how to use it bc i am kinda scared of it! lol. i am going on vacation in 2 weeks so i have no choice but to get on it as the person who bought the camera for me will be on vacation with me too! The comments below do sound very encouraging so I hope I can figure it out! I am used to just using my cheap phone! I'll thank you in advance, Tony and everyone, please wish me luck! :)

I got one of these 10 days ago and bought the EF mount and I just ordered a RF 50 mm. And I really like this goofy little camera. When I pick up my old DSLR now, it feels huge. And the pictures I'm getting with this are amazing. I had some problems using third party lenses, with the camera getting locked into weird autofocus cycles. No problem with Canon lenses though.

This is a fantastic help. I'm taking a trip to Japan and bought this camera to try my hand at capturing details for what are sure to be fantastic memories even without the camera. I really appreciate you giving me some confidence setting it up.

I have a Canon 5D mark iii and a Canon Rebel T7. I use my T7 more than my 5D mark iii. I like the presets of my T7 (sports, portrait, etc.) I like a lot that the R100 has "presets" in scene mode. I know how to shoot manually but some times I just want the "can't go wrong" preset, like for example the sports preset is so helpful to me to not have to think about if I have the right camera settings to capture the moving subject in focus. Also with the presets I look at the photo's meta data and I learn what the T7 camera chooses for "optimal" photos and I can apply that knowledge to tweak the manual camera settings to my liking.

Could you do a video about the top 5 or 10 lenses that you should buy as a beginner/intermediate photographer, with a budget of under 600 dollars? As a beginner photographer myself I have bought a canon T7 to start, and would like to know a few lenses that are best to start with, I have the kit lens of course but would not like to keep taking photos with a low-quality lens like the kit lens. I have enjoyed all of your teaching videos, along with the 7-hour on photography.

I just bought a canon r10 and I really hope you do a tutorial video for that camera. I've watched a few videos and they were too short, or they didn't explain the settings in a way that I understood. Or they dwelled on things for to long. You explained all the relevant settings to an appropriate degree for the r100, I hope you do that for the r10. Thank you if you do in advance.

I have an EF mount 100mm macro lens that I bought used from Adorama costing me $600. I have a 24-105mm EF mount lens that I bought used from a friend. On my Canon 5D mark iii, and Canon Rebel T7 I can use both my EF-mount 100mm, and 24-105mm lenses natively with out an adapter. When I do upgrade to a mirrorless Canon camera will get a camera like the Canon R100 for the entry level price. And I will definitely save up for the 18-150mm zoom lens. I love my 24-105mm EF mount lens but to have an even wider and more macro lens like the 18-150mm will be great !

Side Note: The HDMI out can be used as a webcam but you would need a capture card as well. You will need to be in movie mode and change the HDMI out settings to clean 4k or clean 1080p.

For me with M50, M200, RP and R8 the app has been fairly smooth (to Android), but nothing beats memory card reader when it's just for the files. I think there is one more thing you can also warn about: USB connection on the camera. It's USB 2.0 and the camera isn't powered via the cable so it drains some battery too (less than wifi I assume). USB 2 isn't so fast - every memory card, even cheapest, will have a read speed faster than it (practice, don't look at just the spec). So a separate card reader with USB 3 or built into a computer is faster. For transferring to a phone via USB it's _far_ from standard that they use USB 3. And it's often very hard to find that info out (gsmarena may have it). So looking for USB-C portable memory card readers you can save a little bit of money of choosing the older (2) if it's solely to transfer to a phone with USB 2. I use micro SD cards solely, with adapter for the camera. My laptop have a built in card reader for only micro cards and other things (sound recorder, drone, etc.) so it's standardized. The adapters for memory cards are just "dumb" so no penalty for using one. I never remove the card from the adapter when I normally use the standalone memory card reader for the desktop computer. But also - USB-C micro SD readers are very small so not so bulky for the phone. Anyway back to the app, it can be used for more than just transfer files. One thing I noticed with the R8, maybe works for all or at least the R100 (?) is firmware update. So the app informs you about a new firmware for the camera, then downloads it to the camera on to the memory card and triggers the firmware update. Way less intimidating for novice users than browsing around canon's webpage and find the file to download and put on the memory card.

Congrats on your new, Canon-crippled EOS R100 camera. No touchscreen on this. Even the R50 is quite ergonomically flawed, compared to let's say the Nikon Z50, though the R50 autofocus and features are stellar. Now imagine, taking away the touchscreen from the R50, as way as worsening it in all the ways, and you arrive at the R100.

I believe that the EOS R100 is a marketing strategy. It marks the boundary and guides the human mind to buy the next better option e.g R50. Why do you think we are often provided three options when buying a service. One with so little provisions that it doesn't make sense. One pro plan that is way too expensive. How often have we selected the middle just right option. The provider guides us, eases us into buying what they want to sell us. It is about the human mind and the comments section is not the right place to discuss. I believe the guidelines that Canon offers us are indeed the R100 and the R3. My humble opinion.
