Thanks for the look at and conversation about the new firmware. Sadly, Canon is never going to lift that 30 minute recording limit on video. They know it would limit sales of the mark 2 if they did so. Many already feel that the r5 is still a great body (it is) so Canon is not going to give them even more reason not to upgrade. But I already have the mark 2 and would still like them to remove that false limitation so I can get more out of both of my r5s. Take care.

I am afraid to say but you are right. How do you find the mark 2? I decided not to upgrade to the R5 Mark 2. As I am waiting for the R5C mark 2 instead but I don't know when that will be out.

Nice vid and some good info. I updated mine last week to the latest firmware and got to admit, taking the camera to film some jets at RAF Lakenheath 2 days ago the hit rate for high speed shooting was a LOT higher, not by a small margin but a massive one, tracking seemed improved as was the number of perfectly focused shots. I was also using RF200-800 rather than the 1-500mm and again, was pleasantly surprised with the performance with it being a slower lens than the 1-500 (I have had the lens for 3 months and thoroughly put it to the test). Equally the image quality was spot on even at full stretch, although if you use the 100-500 and move to the 2-800 it is not as good on the long end and can sometimes give some pretty soft images (I have found it to be down to not being properly focused and there is no forgiveness at all), so for me I will be keeping the 1-500 for a while longer. Aligned with the firmware update, for sure, for me there is a definite improvement and I am glad you made this film as it has helped the pieces of the puzzle drop into line. Pfft for a moment I thought it was me that had got better hahahahaha oh well, maybe next time. :-D

I have a question regarding my Canon R5. After updating the firmware to version 2.1.0, on video mode I noticed a camera icon appearing on the screen (see photo). Does anyone know what this means?
