I used to use the Canon t5 as my main camera for shooting video and you can actually turn the auto video mode and adjust the three factors that make up the exposure triangle: shutter speed, aperture, and iso I believe is still a great camera to start with and get into the world of both photography and videography.

I use this camera for my videos , it doesn't have a mic slot and it doesn't autofocus. But it's still sufficient for videos. It's an amazing camera for photography. I highly recommend it.

+Adriana M Both cameras have almost identical image quality. The Canon T3 has a slight edge in regards to low-light performance, but image quality-wise, they are almost identical. The T5 is more technologically advanced in regards to shooting higher resolution video (1080p vs 720p), a larger LCD screen with higher resolution, having video autofocus, higher overall resolution, and slightly more dynamic range. The T3 has better battery life, and would be lighter and more economically-priced.

The camera can connect to your laptop via the supplied USB cable that came with the camera, and using the Canon EOS Utility Software (also supplied with the camera) one is able to control the camera via the computer and see the images on the computer as they have been captured. ? We tried upgrading to the T5 from T3i but was not overly impressed. If you are trying to shoot anything moving or a sporting event, the focus and shutter are painfully slow. The photos are good but you have to try to be about half a second ahead of what is moving to get the photo.

Ivan Soto Technically you could zoom during recording, however the camera's AF system would be problematic as it would take a while to refocus once the zoom is complete which is not ideal. This is the case with all DSLR cameras which record video. - Yossi

Unfortunately, the T5 does not have an external mic input. There are no adapters that could be used to connect a mic to the T5. If you wanted to use an external mic, you would need to use an external audio recorder and then sync the sound in post. In terms of external audio recorders, you could look at the Zoom H4n Pro 4-Channel Handy Recorder. The on-board X/Y stereo mic is excellent, though it also has inputs for use with an external mic. The T5 has a bulb exposure, so you could do long exposures for start trails with the camera. You would want a remote shutter release for this, to keep the camera from shaking when you trigger the shutter. If you get a remote with an intervalometer, you could use that to set the camera to take a series of shots at set intervals, which you could turn into a time lapse video with various software options. Yes, the Canon EOS T5 may be used to record videos for KZbin. However, do note that this camera will not autofocus during video, so you will either have to pre-focus or focus manually during video recording.

It will only take 3-8 second videos if you have a slow SD card. Make sure it's at least class 4, aim for class 10

It can definitely be used to take professional quality videos and short films. Being that it is their more entry-level model, there are higher tier models which have more features and better specifications, (such as a higher ISO rating for better low-light performance for instance) but it can capture video in 1080p HD resolution. ?
