Hey Justin, I came here to learn about the M50 Mark II because my M50 (Mark I?) no longer will hold my memory card in place on it's own. I have to do some kinda finger dance to close the latch and hope the card seats itself into place... sigh. Anywho, I'm checking to see if it makes sense to pay that extra money to upgrade to the Mark II, apparently not for me. Thanks for a great video that was exactly what I needed. I just subbed because I like your style and ease in front of the camera. Looking forward to watching much more of your content! Well done.

Clean HDMI with external recording will give you that superb dual pixel auto focus and can be used to work around 30 minutes video recording. May just worth that $50 considering it might get one or two more future firmware update than the M50. Nice review. New sub here.

Would the Mark II be a good camera to buy? Also could you recommend a lens or the kit would be just fine? For video shooters, there is FullHD 3x "crop" mode which works similar to the 4K options on the 90D. A fantastic feature for the OTG shooting with prime lenses.

Oh thanks so much! If they were the same price, get the Mk II. But it honestly is just a couple software-based tweaks and if you don't specifically need those couple of things then I'd spend the difference on other things - a lens, audio, filters, a light, etc... those will likely make a bigger difference in the end.

I was so stoked when I heard there was a mark ii. Because I've been using the mark i sense the beginning. But yes, agree thats its a tiiinnnyy disappointment and could've been better.. I'd rather eventually upgrade to the eos r. But I still love my m50.

Yeah, it's painful to know that they could've just updated the firmware and given you pretty much all of this, but oh well. Have you tried out the EOS Webcam software yet for your M50? Should let you stream just fine (minus the audio)!

Canon adapter is great - 3rd party ones are noisy. My Sigma 18-35 with the Canon adapter was amazing.

Yeah, it was the #1 selling mirrorless camera in the US so they want to keep it rolling without much risk. I shot this one on my trusty Panasonic G7.

What you described sounds exactly like the regular Canon M50. The only difference is a firmware update on the Mark II.

Well the Mark 2 is better because it has a couple new features. But if you don't need those features, I wouldn't spend the money on it.

Nobody’s mentioning the added digital zoom feature in the Mark ii which is absent in the M50. Is this not relevant anymore? I’m planning to upgrade to Mark ii just because of this feature.

They both have digital stabilization which crops in a bit and looks weird but does smooth it out. Neither have actual physical stabilization in the camera. Some of the lenses do.

If they simply did the 4K without crop, that would have sold me. Instead, I am spending a bit more for a a6400 and getting a lot more in return. At this price, it's the same as the a6100 and I feel like the a6100 is a better deal.

Hey, hello. I'm thinking of getting a camera for band work- youtube lives, photos, and even to make some band videos shoots, and vloging, maybe low light stuff, and I saw and read a lot about m50 but.... I'm not sure what camera to buy, the m50 limitations and the fact that 4k is not functional is a drawback..specially if the 4k is going to be the next standard. I don't want to buy a camera that's longevity wise is not that long. - should I look elsewhere?

Yeah, look at this: amzn.to/39cTVeu Better low light, full 4K, still great for vlogging. A bit more money but for what you’re doing, this will be better. You’ll want to get a good lens down the road as you learn a bit more and the Canon M doesn’t have nearly as many.

Via USB, yes, Canons webcam software lets you do this. You just want to get a dummy battery that plugs in so it never runs out of juice.

MKII is a m50 software update :( very poor from Canon! I have Lumix G85 and G9, so my M50 is now a door stop.

Still shooting on a G7 most days. Solid camera. G85 was great - the IBIS is incredible. Panasonic just needs to take a page out of Olympus’s autofocus book and they will be competitive.

I haven’t heard any swirling rumours about an M60 - I do think there could be a new M5 but I think we’ll actually start seeing more crop R cameras with more power. And the M mount might die in a couple years. Phones continue to eat up the camera market especially on the low end.

I have an M50 Mk1 - Sony creating the A7C and Canon with the RP, seems to be signaling the end of APS-C as a serious camera especially for video. Fuji is the only one really holding the torch for “crop” cameras unless I’m missing a camera - that can be ok IF canon keeps making value Full Frame cameras and innovated like Sony has with the A7C

I think it's awesome seeing the A7C and RP as they're really, REALLY good value - to be able to get full frame for that cheap is amazing. I'd say the Sony a6400/a6700 are still firmly crop sensor powerhouses - they can produce some amazing results. And then you have micro four thirds which still dominate for video. But it is exciting seeing what's accessible now for full frame video. Now we just need more budget RF lenses (Tamron is doing a good job for full frame Sony).

There is the m50 but not the mark 1. It is the EOS M50 not the mark 1. There is only the mark 2. No idea where you get that from. If it was the mark 1 it would have been on the camera. Just like the 6d mkii
