When I modified the Canon S50 years ago, I removed the crossover altogether, and wired the full range drive unit directly to the speaker binding posts. The result was that the sound quality became more transparent, with the ability to turn the volume up louder without the distortion. The 3D imaging was definitely improved.

You mean the standard woofers the came with the canon S50? I did find it weird why it even had a crossover since it didn't have a dedicated midrange or tweeter. If removing it made it louder maybe it was acting as a waltage limiter. I also didn't know anyone else modified these haha do you still have yours? I'm thinking I could further improve audio quality by getting a crossover with a lower crossover point 3200Khz seems a little high but bumping up the treble and base through a digital equaliser does the trick too

@@VrtuhubTechI used the original mid/woofer that came with the speaker. After my mods were done, the S50 did not sound louder than the originals, but it did gain the ability to turn up the volume higher without distortion creeping in. However, I suggest that you try an experiment by linking your new replacement mid/woofer directly to the speaker binding posts. Trust me, you won’t go back.

@@ttrrooyyttrrootteerr it won't work for me as my upgraded speaker needs two separate frequencies, so each speaker unit takes four cables. One goes for the lows and mid and the other for the high frequencies but otherwise yeh it makes more sense to just plug it in directly but you obviously risk blowing the speakers if you turn it up too high

@@VrtuhubTech ok I didn’t realise that you are using a coax drive unit. However, when I used the original mid/woofer, without the circuit board; the power handling was unchanged, and I could turn the volume level up just as high as I could before the mods were done. However, it is important to note that when the original Mid/Woofer was connected directly to the speaker binding posts; it definitely sounded more 3D and Holographic soundstage.
