Canon Powershot SX70 HS - Step Two: Camera Buttons and Features

An overview of the Canon SX70 HS and what each of the buttons do. The next video will include a lot more demo's but for the time being this was just a quick run through of all of these buttons so we know where we are starting from.

I own the SX40 and watched your entire series on that camera. I recently purchased the SX70 (and you can tell Canon, at least in my case, your SX40 videos are the reason I purchased the SX70). I'm hoping you'll do a full series for the SX70 like you did for the SX40. I love listening to you. It's relaxing and informative at the same time. You are a treasure!

I am sooo excited. just got mine but its rainy . This camera feels like a million bucks .my existing photos on my card look great on the screen. I took one shot of flowers out front in no light ..still looked too hot . The view finder is like looking into a theatre .i couldn't be happier .if this is what 600 bucks can do im never having a 6000 dollar sony

The time is very accurate, it tells how much video time you have left on the SD card :) In video mode you can set slow motion recording, hope it's got improved resolution compared to the SX40? The swiveling /rotating screen is sooo nice, I miss it on my new camera and feel that the screen is unprotected at all times, it gets greasy when I use the eye piece / viewfinder and I'm afraid it might get scratched when carrying the camera strapped over my shoulder :/ The Wi-Fi connector is not good for transferring a lot of material, but it's nice to be able to share a few pictures or a video while out and about. There might be an app for it, there is for my other Wi-Fi equipped cameras, where you can use the phone as a remote control, quite nice feature for many occasions like astro photographing, time lapse, shy birds etc.

I have a panasonic fz82 with same type powerful lens but when you want to do any videos, there's no external microphone socket on it. There is a hot shoe on the top but you need to use the special Panasonic flash gun to go on the top but you cannot use a microphone gun to go on the hot shoe as there no contacts inside for the electrical parts. I am considering getting the canon and using a large c shape mount to go round the side of camera to hold the microphone gun for videoing.

Yes! It's definitely a trooper of a camera too. The SX70 is nice, but for me at least, there are only a handful of changes that have really made a difference. :)

Does it allow you to set ISO values for long exposure shots or does it still limit you to 100 ISO? The SX40 would limit you to ISO 100 for anything longer than 1 second even in manual mode. This is so annoying, and honestly kind of absurd. You want to expose for 1 second with ISO 3200? fine, the camera agrees, but expose for 1.3 seconds with ISO 200? No this is too dangerous....

Hi Seth, I have had a play with this recently but unfortunately the Poweshot SX range has never been able to achieve this very well. I will keep looking into it to see if there are ways around it but it's not as easy as when using an SLR

i want to take long exposure photos, but no one has a tutorial on how to do it. I did it once but I can't seem to do it again

Hi Kasper, Sorry for the slow reply. I'm not sure on the long exposure on the SX70 yet as I haven't looked into it, but I will do. On the SX40 we had to hack the camera for exposures longer than a few seconds but hopefully not on this one. I will have a look and post what I find.

What is the battery life like ?

Apologies for the slow reply. The battery life is pretty good actually. I can take it for a full day and still have about 1/3 of the battery left. If I was on a day trip and taking photos pretty consistently throughout I wouldn't have any concern about the battery running out.

Almost every shot is blurry no matter what settings I use. I also have a DSLR and my shots come out very clear and sharp. Beginning to think this camera is defective. I would not recommend it at all.

Hi Jane. I know what you mean. If the lighting isn't perfect, or if you need a quick shot the focus isn't excellent. I have the same complaint having used it for several months.
